The Koine Bible

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying

Son of man, what is this proverb among you in the sons of Israel, saying, The fathers ate sour grapes, and the teeth of the children were set on edge?

As I live, says the Lord, this proverb shall no longer be spoken in Israel.

For all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine; the soul that sins, it shall die.

But the man who shall be righteous, the one doing justice and righteousness

He shall not eat on the mountains, and he shall by no means lift up his eyes to the devices of the house of Israel, and he shall by no means defile his neighbor’s wife, and he shall not approach a woman who is in her uncleanness.

and he shall not oppress anyone; he shall return a pledge to one who owes; and he shall not seize by robbery; he shall give his bread to the hungry, and he shall clothe the naked

and his money he will not give on interest, and he will not take profit, and from injustice he will turn back his hand; just judgment he will do between a man and between his neighbor

and he has walked in my ordinances and has kept my statutes, to do them; he is righteous, he shall surely live, says the Lord

And if he begets a violent son, shedding blood and doing sins,

in the way of his father the righteous he did not walk, but also on the mountains he ate, and the wife of his neighbor he defiled

And he oppressed the poor and the needy, and seized spoil, and did not restore a pledge, and he set his eyes toward the idols; he has done lawlessness.

he has given at interest and has taken increase; shall he indeed live? He has done all these lawless acts; with death he shall be put to death. His blood shall be upon him.

But if he begets a son and sees all the sins of his father which he did, and fears, and does not do according to these,

On the mountains he has not eaten, and his eyes he has not set upon the thoughts of the house of Israel, and his neighbor’s wife he has not defiled.

and he did not oppress a man, and he did not take a pledge, and he did not seize a thing seized by force, he gave his bread to the hungry, and he clothed the naked

and he turned back his hand from injustice, he did not take interest nor usury, he did righteousness, and he walked in my ordinances; he shall not die in the injustices of his father, he shall surely live.

But his father, if he oppresses with oppression and seizes plunder, has done contrary in the midst of my people, and he shall die in his iniquity

And you will say, Why is it that the son has not borne the injustice of his father? Because the son has done righteousness and mercy; he has kept all my ordinances and has done them; he shall surely live.

But the soul that sins shall die; and the son shall not bear the iniquity of his father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of his son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the lawlessness of the lawless shall be upon him.

And if the lawless man turns back from all his lawless deeds which he has done and keeps all my commandments and does righteousness and mercy, he shall live by life; he shall surely not die.

All his transgressions, as many as he did, shall not be remembered in his righteousness, which he has done; he shall live.

Do I desire at all the death of the lawless one, says the Lord, as to his turning back from his evil way and his living?

But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits injustice according to all the lawless acts that the lawless man did, all his righteous acts that he did shall not be remembered; in his trespass by which he fell, and in his sins by which he sinned, in them he shall die.

And you said, The way of the Lord is not straight. Hear now, all house of Israel: Is not my way straight? Is it not your way that is not straight?

when the righteous turns away from his righteousness and commits a transgression and dies, in the transgression which he committed, in it he shall die

And in the turning away of the lawless man from his lawlessness that he has done, and he shall do judgment and righteousness, he has preserved his life.

and he turned back from all his impieties which he did, by life he shall live, he shall surely not die

And the house of Israel says, The way of the Lord is not right; is not my way not right, house of Israel? Is it not your way that is not right?

I will judge each one according to his way, you house of Israel, says the Lord; be turned back and turn away from all your impieties, and they shall not be to you for punishment of injustice.

Cast away from yourselves all your acts of ungodliness by which you have acted ungodly against me, and make for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit, and why do you die, house of Israel?

For I do not desire the death of the one who dies, says the Lord
