Son of man, tell a tale and speak a parable to the house of Israel
And you shall say: Thus says the Lord: The great eagle, the one with great wings, the long one in extent, full of talons, which has the command to enter into Lebanon and took the choice parts of the cedar
He plucked off the topmost shoots of its tenderness and brought them to the land of Canaan; in a walled city he set them.
And he took from the seed of the land and put it in a plain, a plant by much water; he set it under observation.
And it sprouted and became a weak vine and small in size, so as for its shoots to appear upon it, and its roots were beneath it; and it became a vine and made shoots and stretched out its branches.
And there was another great eagle, with great wings and many claws, and behold, this vine was entwined toward him, and its roots were toward him, and it sent out its branches to him to water it, together with the furrow of its planting.
In a good field, on much water, it is nourished, to make shoots and to bear fruit, so as to be a great vine
Therefore say, Thus says the Lord: if it should prosper, will not its tender roots and its fruit rot and all its first springing things dry up? And it will not be by a great arm nor by a numerous people to pull it up from its roots.
And behold, it is being made fruitful; will it not be made straight? Will it not at once, when the hot wind touches it, be dried up? It shall be dried up with dryness, along with the soil of its east wind; it shall be dried up.
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
Son of man, say now to the provoking house: Do you not know what these things are? Say, when the king of Babylon comes against Jerusalem, then he will take its king and its rulers and will lead them to himself in Babylon.
And he will take from the seed of the kingdom and will make a covenant with him and will bring him in under an oath, and he will take the leading men of the land.
to become a kingdom weak, not at all to lift itself up, to keep his covenant and to establish it
and he will revolt from him by sending his messengers to Egypt, to give him horses and much people. Will he prosper? Will he be saved who does contrary and transgresses a covenant? Will he be saved?
As I live, says the Lord, surely in the place where the king who made him king, who despised my oath and who broke my covenant with him, in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
And Pharaoh will not make war against him with a great force nor with a numerous multitude, by a siege work and by the building of missile towers, to take away lives
And he despised the oath in order to break the covenant, and behold, he has given his hand, and he has done all these things to him; he shall not be saved.
Therefore say, Thus says the Lord: I live, if I do not bring upon his head my covenant which he transgressed and my oath which he despised.
And I will spread over him my net, and he shall be taken in my enclosure.
In every battle of his they shall fall by the sword, and the survivors I will scatter to every wind, and you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken
For thus says the Lord: and I will take from the choice parts of the cedar, from the top of their heart I will strip off, and I will plant it on a high mountain and I will hang it up
On the lofty mountain of Israel I will plant it, and it will bring forth a shoot and bear fruit and will become a great cedar; and every beast will rest beneath it and every bird will rest under its shade; its branches will be restored
And all the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord who brings low the high tree and exalts the low tree and dries up the green tree and makes the dry tree flourish; I, the Lord, have spoken and will do it.
