And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth of the month, men from the elders of the house of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, and they sat before my face.
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying
Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: If you come to inquire of me, I am alive, says the Lord, if I will answer you.
Will you judge them, son of man? Will you judge the lawless deeds of their fathers? Bear witness against them.
And you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord: From the day when I chose the house of Israel and was known to the seed of the house of Jacob and was made known to them in the land of Egypt, and I took hold of them by my hand, saying, I am the Lord your God.
In that day I took hold of them by my hand, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into the land that I prepared for them, a land flowing with milk and honey; it is a honeycomb beyond all the land.
And I said to them, Let each throw away the abominations of his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the practices of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.
And they departed from me and did not want to hear me; they did not cast away the abominations of their eyes, and they did not forsake the practices of Egypt; and I said that I would pour out my wrath upon them, to complete my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
And I acted so that my name might not be utterly profaned before the nations among whom they are, in whose midst I was known to them before them, in bringing them out from the land of Egypt.
And I brought them out of the land of Egypt and led them into the wilderness
And I gave them my ordinances, and I made my statutes known to them, which a man shall do and live by them.
And I gave them my sabbaths to be for a sign between me and between them, for them to know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them
And I said to the house of Israel in the wilderness, In my ordinances walk, and they did not walk, and they rejected my statutes, which a man shall do them and live by them, and my sabbaths they profaned exceedingly; and I said to pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
And I did it so that my name at all might not be profaned before the nations in whose sight I brought them out, before their eyes
And I lifted up my hand against them in the wilderness, not at all to bring them into the land that I gave them, a land flowing with milk and honey, it is a honeycomb beyond all the land.
because they rejected my ordinances and did not walk in my statutes, and they profaned my sabbaths, and they went after the thoughts of their hearts
And my eye spared them from destroying them, and I did not make them an end in the wilderness.
And I said to their children in the wilderness, Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers, and do not keep their ordinances, and do not mingle yourselves with their practices, and do not defile yourselves.
I am the Lord your God; walk in my ordinances and keep my statutes and do them.
And hallow my sabbaths, and let it be for a sign between me and you, for knowing that I am the Lord your God.
And they provoked me to bitterness, and their children did not walk in my statutes, and did not keep my ordinances to do them, which if a man does he shall live by them; and they profaned my sabbaths, and I said to pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to bring my anger to completion upon them
And I acted so that my name might not be utterly profaned before the nations, before whose eyes I brought them out.
And I lifted up my hand against them in the wilderness to scatter them among the nations and to disperse them among the lands
because they did not do my ordinances and rejected my commands and profaned my sabbaths, and their eyes were after the thoughts of their fathers
And I gave them not good statutes and ordinances, in which they shall not live by them
And I will defile them by their gifts, in their passing through all that opens the womb, so that I may destroy them.
Therefore speak to the house of Israel, son of man, and you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: until this, your fathers provoked me to anger by their transgressions, in which they fell away from me.
And I brought them into the land which I lifted up my hand to give to them, and they saw every high hill and every shady tree, and there they sacrificed to their gods and there they set out a fragrance of sweet odor and there they poured out their drink offerings.
And I said to them, What is Abama, that you go in there? And they called its name Abama until this very day.
Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord: If in the lawless deeds of your fathers you defile yourselves, and after their abominations you go whoring, you also,
And in the firstfruits of your gifts, in your separations, you defile yourselves in all your thoughts to this very day; and I shall answer you: house of Israel, I live, says the Lord, if I shall answer you; and if this thing shall come up upon your spirit.
And it shall not be in the way that you say, We will be like the nations and like the tribes of the land, to serve wood and stones.
Therefore, as I live, says the Lord, with a strong hand and with an exalted arm and with poured-out wrath I will reign over you
And I will bring you out from the peoples and will receive you from the lands in which you were scattered, with a mighty hand and with an exalted arm and with poured-out wrath.
And I will lead you into the wilderness of the peoples, and I will plead with you there face to face.
As I dealt with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will judge you, says the Lord
And I will bring you under my rod, and I will bring you in by number
And I will choose out from among you the ungodly and those who have departed, because out of their sojourning I will lead them out, and into the land of Israel they shall not enter, and you shall know that I am the Lord
And you, house of Israel, thus says the Lord Lord: each one, remove his practices, and afterward, if indeed you do not listen to me, and my holy name you shall no longer profane by your gifts and by your practices, you shall no longer.
For on my holy mountain, on a high mountain, says the Lord, Lord, there all the house of Israel shall serve me, all of them, and there I will accept you, and there I will regard your firstfruits and the firstfruits of your consecrations in all your holy things.
As a sweet-smelling fragrance I will accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples and receive you from the lands in which you were scattered among them; and I will be sanctified in you before the eyes of the peoples.
And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I bring you into the land of Israel, into the land for which I lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers.
And there you shall remember your ways and your practices in which you defiled yourselves by them, and you shall beat your faces for all your evils.
And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have done thus to you, so that my name might not be profaned according to your evil ways and according to your corrupt practices, says the Lord.
