And Abraham moved from there into the land toward the south, and dwelt between Kadesh and between Sur, and sojourned in Gerar.

And Abraham said concerning Sarah his wife, She is my sister, for he feared to say, She is my wife, lest the men of the city kill him because of her. And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

And God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said, Behold, you are dying because of the woman whom you took; but she is married to a husband.

But Abimelech had not touched her, and he said, Lord, will you destroy a nation that is ignorant and righteous?

Did he not himself say to me, She is my sister, and she herself said to me, He is my brother? In a pure heart and in righteousness of hands I did this.

And God said to him in sleep, And I knew that in a pure heart you did this, and I spared you from sinning against me; therefore I did not allow you to touch her.

Now therefore restore the woman to the man, because he is a prophet, and he will pray concerning you, and you will live; but if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all that are yours.

And Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and spoke all these words in their ears, and all the men feared exceedingly.

And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What is this you have done to us? Have we at all sinned against you, that you have brought upon me and upon my kingdom a great sin? A deed that no one will do you have done to me.

And Abimelech said to Abraham, What did you see that you did this?

And Abraham said, For I said, Surely there is no godliness in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.

And indeed she is truly my sister, from my father but not from my mother; and she became my wife.

And it came to pass, when God brought me out from my father’s house, that I said to her, You shall do this kindness for me: in every place where we may enter, there say of me, He is my brother.

And Abimelech took a thousand didrachmas, sheep and calves, and male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and he restored to him Sarah his wife.

And Abimelech said to Abraham, Behold, my land is before you; wherever it may please you, dwell.

And to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given a thousand didrachmas to your brother; these shall be for you as honor for your face and for all who are with you, and tell the truth in all things.

And Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maidservants, and they bore children.

because the Lord had completely closed every womb in the house of Abimelech on account of Sarah, the wife of Abraham
