And there was a famine on the land, apart from the former famine which occurred in the time of Abraham, and Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

And the Lord appeared to him and said, Do not go down into Egypt; but dwell in the land which I may tell you.

and dwell as a sojourner in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you; for to you and to your seed I will give all this land, and I will establish my oath that I swore to Abraham your father

And I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and I will give to your seed all this land; and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in your seed.

because Abraham your father obeyed my voice and kept my ordinances and my commandments and my statutes and my laws

And Isaac dwelt in Gerar.

And the men of the place asked concerning Rebekah his wife, and he said, She is my sister; for he was afraid to say, She is my wife, lest the men of the place kill him because of Rebekah, because she was fair in appearance.

And it came to pass after a long time there, that Abimelech, the king of Gerar, looking through the window, saw Isaac sporting with Rebekah his wife

And Abimelech called Isaac and said to him, Is she indeed your wife? Why did you say, She is my sister? And Isaac said to him, For I said, lest I die because of her.

And Abimelech said to him, What is this you have done to us? One of the men of my kindred almost lay with your wife, and you brought ignorance upon us.

And Abimelech commanded all his people, saying, Everyone who touches this man or his wife shall be guilty of death.

And Isaac sowed in that land, and in that year he found a hundredfold barley, and the Lord blessed him.

And the man became exalted and, advancing, became greater until he became very great

And he had flocks of sheep and herds of cattle and much farming, and the Philistines envied him.

And all the wells which the servants of his father had dug in the time of his father, the Philistines stopped them up and filled them with earth.

And Abimelech said to Isaac, Go away from us, for you have become far mightier than we.

And Isaac went away from there and settled in the valley of Gerar, and he dwelt there.

And Isaac dug again the wells of the water that the servants of Abraham his father had dug, and the Philistines had stopped them up after Abraham his father died; and he gave them names according to the names which Abraham his father had given them.

And Isaac’s servants dug in the valley of Gerar, and they found there a well of living water.

And the shepherds of Gerar contended with the shepherds of Isaac, saying, The water is theirs; and he called the name of the well Injustice, for they had wronged him.

And Isaac, having departed from there, dug another well; and they quarreled also concerning that one, and he called its name Enmity

And having departed from there, he dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it, and he called its name Broad Place, saying, Because now the Lord has widened for us and has increased us on the earth.

And he went up from there to the well of the oath

And the Lord appeared to him in that night and said, I am the God of Abraham your father; do not fear, for I am with you, and I have blessed you and I will multiply your seed for the sake of Abraham your father.

And he built there an altar and called upon the name of the Lord, and he pitched his tent there; and the servants of Isaac dug a well there.

And Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the commander-in-chief of his force.

And Isaac said to them, Why have you come to me, since you hated me and sent me away from you?

And they said, seeing, We have indeed seen that the Lord was with you, and we said, Let there be a curse between us and between you, and we will make a covenant with you

that you will not do us evil, just as we did not abhor you, and as we dealt kindly with you, and sent you away with peace, and now you are blessed by the Lord

And he made a banquet for them, and they ate and drank.

And they rose up in the morning and each man swore to his neighbor, and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace

And it happened on that day that the servants of Isaac came and reported to him concerning the well which they had dug, and they said, We have not found water.

And he called it Oath; therefore the name of the city was Well of Oath until this day.

And Esau was forty years old, and he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hivite.

And they were contentious to Isaac and to Rebekah.
