And Laban rose up in the morning and kissed his sons and his daughters and blessed them, and Laban turned back and went away to his place.

And Jacob went on his way, and lifting up his eyes he saw a camp of God encamped, and the angels of God met him

And Jacob said when he saw them, This is a camp of God, and he called the name of that place Campings.

And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother, into the land of Seir, into the country of Edom.

And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall you say to my lord Esau: Thus says your servant Jacob: With Laban I stayed as a sojourner, and I delayed until now.

And there came to me oxen and donkeys and sheep and male servants and female servants, and I sent to announce to my lord Esau, so that your servant might find favor before you.

And the angels returned to Jacob, saying, We came to your brother Esau, and behold, he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men with him.

And Jacob was greatly afraid and was perplexed, and he divided the people with him and the oxen and the sheep into two camps

And Jacob said, If Esau should come into one camp and cut it down, the second camp shall be for escaping.

And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, Lord, the one who said to me, Return to the land of your birth, and I will do you good,

I am made sufficient by all righteousness and by all truth which you have done for your servant, for with my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become into two camps

Deliver me from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid of him, lest he come and strike me, the mother with the children.

And you said, I will surely do you good, and I will make your seed like the sand of the sea, which shall not be numbered because of its multitude.

And he slept there that night, and he took from what he was bringing gifts and sent them to Esau his brother

two hundred female goats, twenty male goats, two hundred sheep, twenty rams

milch camels and their young thirty cows forty bulls ten donkeys twenty and colts ten

And he gave into the hand of his servants a flock by itself, and he said to his servants, Go on before me, and make a space between flock and flock.

And he commanded the first, saying, If Esau my brother meets you and asks you, saying, Whose are you, and where are you going, and whose are these things that go before you?

You shall say, Of your servant Jacob, he has sent gifts to my lord Esau, and behold, he himself is behind us.

And he instructed the first and the second and the third and all who were going before these flocks, saying, According to this word, speak to Esau when you find him.

And you shall say, Behold, your servant Jacob is coming behind us, for he said, I will appease his face with the gifts that go ahead of him, and afterward I will see his face; for perhaps he will receive my face.

And the gifts were passing on before him, but he slept that night in the camp.

And he rose up that night and took his two wives and his two maidservants and his eleven children, and crossed over the ford of the Jabbok.

And he took them and crossed the wadi, and he brought over all his possessions.

And Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until morning

And he saw that he was not able against him, and he touched the broad part of his thigh, and the broad part of Jacob’s thigh became numb, as he wrestled with him with him

And he said to him, Send me away, for the dawn has gone up. But he said, I will not send you away unless you bless me.

And he said to him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob.

And he said to him, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name, because you have prevailed with God and with men, powerful.

And Jacob asked and said, Tell me your name. And he said, Why is it that you ask this, my name? And he blessed him there.

And Jacob called the name of that place, Face of God, for I saw God face to face, and my soul was saved.

And the sun rose upon him when he passed by the form of God, and he was limping on his thigh.

Because of this the sons of Israel shall not eat the sinew that became numb, which is upon the broad part of the thigh, until this day, because he touched the broad part of Jacob’s thigh, the sinew, and it became numb.
