And God said to Jacob, Rise, go up to the place of Bethel and dwell there, and make there an altar to the God who appeared to you when you were fleeing from the face of Esau your brother.

And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, Remove the foreign gods that are among you from your midst, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments.

And let us arise and go up to Bethel, and let us make there an altar to the God who heard me in the day of affliction, who was with me and preserved me in the way in which I went.

And they gave to Jacob the foreign gods that were in their hands and the earrings that were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the terebinth that was in Shechem, and he destroyed them to this day.

And Israel set out from Shechem, and there was the fear of God upon the cities round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Israel.

And Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, which is Bethel, he and all the people who were with him.

And he built there an altar, and he called the name of the place Bethel, for there God appeared to him when he was fleeing from the face of Esau his brother

And Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died below Bethel under the oak, and Jacob called its name Oak of Mourning.

And God appeared to Jacob again in Luz, when he came from Mesopotamia of Syria, and God blessed him.

And God said to him, Your name, Jacob, shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name.

And God said to him, I am your God; be fruitful and multiply. Nations and assemblies of nations shall be from you, and kings shall come forth from your loins.

and the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac I have given it to you; it shall be yours and to your seed after you I will give this land

And God went up from him from the place where he spoke with him.

And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he had spoken with him, a stone pillar, and he poured out on it a drink offering, and he poured oil on it.

And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him there Bethel

And Jacob, having set out from Bethel, pitched his tent beyond the tower of Gader; and it came to pass, when he drew near to Chabratha, to come into the land of Ephratha, that Rachel gave birth, and she had hard labor in her childbirth.

And it came to pass in her hard labor in giving birth, that the midwife said to her, Take courage, for this one also is a son for you.

And it came to pass, in the letting go of her soul, for she was dying, that she called his name Son of my pain; but the father called him Benjamin.

And Rachel died, and she was buried on the way to Ephratha; this is Bethlehem.

And Jacob set up a pillar over her grave; this is the pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.

And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and slept with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it, and it appeared evil before him. And the sons of Jacob were twelve.

The sons of Leah, the firstborn of Jacob: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun.

And the sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin

And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali.

And the sons of Zilpha, the maidservant of Leah: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Mesopotamia of Syria.

And Jacob came to Isaac his father at Mamre, to the city of the field, this is Hebron, in the land of Canaan, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

And the days of Isaac, which he lived, were one hundred and eighty years.

And failing, he died, and was added to his people, an elder and full of days; and Esau and Jacob, his sons, buried him.
