Then Joseph came and reported to Pharaoh, saying, My father and my brothers and their livestock and their cattle and all that is theirs have come out of the land of Canaan, and behold, they are in the land of Goshen.
And Pharaoh said to Joseph’s brothers, What is your occupation? And they said to Pharaoh, Your servants are shepherds of sheep, both we and our fathers.
And they said to Pharaoh, We have come to sojourn in the land, for there is no grazing for the livestock of your servants, for the famine has grown severe in the land of Canaan; now therefore your servants will dwell in the land of Goshen.
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Let them dwell in the land of Goshen; but if you know that there are among them able men, appoint them rulers over my livestock. And Jacob and his sons came into Egypt to Joseph, and Pharaoh, king of Egypt, heard. And Pharaoh said to Joseph, saying, Your father and your brothers have come to you.
And Jacob said to Pharaoh, The days of the years of my life which I sojourn are one hundred and thirty years; small and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in which they sojourned, have not reached to the days of the years of the life of my fathers.
And Joseph settled his father and his brothers and gave them a holding in the land of Egypt, in the best land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.
And Joseph gathered all the silver found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they were buying, and Joseph measured out grain to them, and Joseph brought all the silver into Pharaoh’s house.
And all the silver failed from the land of Egypt and from the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians came to Joseph, saying, Give us bread, and why should we die before you? For our silver has failed.
And they brought the livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses and in exchange for the sheep and in exchange for the cattle and in exchange for the donkeys, and he sustained them with bread in exchange for all their livestock in that year.
And that year passed, and they came to him in the second year and said to him, Surely we may not be destroyed from before our lord; for if the silver has failed, and the possessions, and the cattle, to you, our lord, and there remains not for us before our lord except our own body and our land
So then let us not die before you and the land be desolated; buy us and our land for bread, and we will be both we and our land servants of Pharaoh. Give seed, that we may sow and live and not die, and the land will not be desolated.
And Joseph acquired all the land of the Egyptians for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians sold their land to Pharaoh, for the famine prevailed over them, and the land became Pharaoh’s.
Only the land of the priests he did not acquire; Joseph acquired it in giving, for he gave a gift to Pharaoh’s priests, and they were eating the gift which Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.
and its produce you shall give the fifth part to Pharaoh, and the four parts shall be yours, for seed in the land and for food for you and for all who are in your houses
And Joseph made it for them into a statute until this day upon the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, that he should send away apart from the land of the priests; only it was not for Pharaoh.
And the days of Israel drew near to die, and he called his son Joseph and said to him, If I have found favor before you, put your hand under my thigh, and you will do mercy and truth toward me, not to bury me in Egypt.
