And Joseph fell upon the face of his father and wept over him and kissed him

And Joseph commanded his servants, the embalmers, to embalm his father, and the embalmers embalmed Israel.

And they fulfilled for him forty days, for so the days of burial are counted; and Egypt mourned him seventy days.

And when the days of mourning had passed, Joseph spoke to the rulers of Pharaoh, saying, If I have found favor before you, speak concerning me in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

My father made me swear, saying, In the tomb which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me; now therefore let me go up and bury my father, and I will return.

And Pharaoh said, Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear.

And Joseph went up to bury his father, and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh and the elders of his house and all the elders of the land of Egypt

and all the household of Joseph and his brothers and all his father’s house and the kinship and the sheep and the cattle they left behind in the land of Goshen

And both chariots and horsemen went up with him, and the camp became very great exceedingly.

And they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and they lamented him with a great and very strong lamentation, and he made mourning for his father seven days

And the inhabitants of the land of Canaan saw the mourning on the threshing floor of Atad, and they said, This is a great mourning for the Egyptians; therefore he called its name Mourning of Egypt, which is beyond the Jordan.

And his sons did so to him, and they buried him there.

And his sons took him up into the land of Canaan and buried him in the double cave which Abraham acquired, the cave with the possession of a memorial, from Ephron the Hittite, opposite Mamre.

And Joseph returned to Egypt, he and his brothers and those who had gone up with him to bury his father

Now when Joseph’s brothers saw that their father had died, they said, Lest perhaps Joseph bear a grudge against us and surely repay us all the evils which we showed against him.

And they came to Joseph, saying, Your father adjured before he died, saying,

Thus you shall say to Joseph: forgive them their injustice and their sin, because they treated you wickedly; and now receive the injustice of the servants of the God of your father. And Joseph wept while they spoke to him.

And coming to him, they said, We are your slaves.

And Joseph said to them, Do not fear, for am I God?

You planned evil against me, but God planned it for good concerning me, so that it might happen as it is today, in order that a great people might be kept alive

And he said to them, Do not fear; I will provide for you and your households. And he comforted them and spoke to their heart.

And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he and his brothers and all his father’s household, and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years

And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation, and the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born on Joseph’s knees.

And Joseph said to his brothers, saying, I am dying, but God will surely visit you and will bring you up out of this land into the land that God swore to our fathers, Abraham and Isaac and Jacob.

And Joseph solemnly charged the sons of Israel, saying, At the visitation with which God will visit you, you shall also carry up my bones from here with you.

And Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old; and they buried him, and they placed him in a coffin in Egypt.
