Cry out with strength and do not spare; lift up your voice like a trumpet, and declare to my people their sins and to the house of Jacob their lawless deeds.
They seek me day by day and desire to know my ways, as a people who have done righteousness and have not forsaken the judgment of their God; now they ask of me righteous judgment and desire to draw near to God.
saying, Why is it that we fasted and you did not see? We humbled our souls and you did not know? For in the days of your fasts you find your own pleasures, and all your subordinates you goad on under you.
Is it such a fast that I chose, and a day for a man to humble his soul? Will you also bend your neck like a ring, and spread sackcloth and ashes under you? Will you not even so call it an acceptable fast?
Is not this the fast that I have chosen, says the Lord, but loose every bond of unrighteousness, untie the tight cords of violent contracts, send away the broken in release, and tear apart every unjust written agreement
Break your bread to the hungry, and bring the poor and homeless into your house; if you see the naked, clothe him, and from the members of your own seed do not turn away.
Then your light shall break forth early, and your healings shall quickly rise, and your righteousness shall go before you, and the glory of God shall gather you round
Then you shall cry out, and God will hear you; while you are still speaking, he will say, Behold, I am here, if you remove from you the bond and the pointing of the finger and the word of grumbling
and if you give your bread from your soul to the one hungering, and satisfy a humbled soul, then your light shall rise in the darkness, and your darkness shall be as midday
And your God shall be with you continually, and you shall be filled according as your soul desires, and your bones shall be made fat, and you shall be like a well-watered garden and like a spring whose water has not failed, and your bones shall spring up like a plant, and they shall be made fat, and they shall inherit generations of generations
And your desolations shall be built up for ages, and your foundations shall be for generations of generations, and you shall be called a builder of fences, and you shall stop the paths between them.
If you turn your foot away from the sabbaths, from doing your will on the holy day, and call the sabbaths delicate, holy to your God, you shall not lift your foot to work, nor shall you speak a word in anger from your mouth
and you shall trust upon the Lord, and he will bring you up onto the good things of the land and will feed you with the inheritance of Jacob your father; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken these things
