Who will give me in the wilderness a last lodging place, and I will leave my people and go away from them, because all are committing adultery, an assembly of those who deal faithlessly

And they bent their tongue like a bow of falsehood, and not faithfulness prevailed on the land, because from evils to evils they went out, and me they did not know.

Each one, guard yourselves from his neighbor, and do not trust in their brothers, because every brother will supplant with the heel, and every friend will go deceitfully.

Each one will mock against his friend; they will not speak truth. Their tongue has learned to speak falsehood; they have dealt unjustly and have not ceased from turning back.

Usury upon usury, deceit upon deceit; they were not willing to know me.

Therefore thus says the Lord: behold, I will burn them and I will test them, for I will do it because of the evil of the daughter of my people.

A wounding arrow is their tongue; deceitful are the words of their mouth. To his neighbor he speaks peaceably, but within himself he keeps enmity.

Shall I not visit punishment upon these things, says the Lord, or shall not my soul take vengeance on a people such as this?

Upon the mountains take up lamentation, and upon the paths of the wilderness a dirge, because they have failed, so that there are no men; they did not hear a voice of existence, from the birds of the sky and even to the cattle they were astonished, they went away.

And I will give Jerusalem for an exile and for a dwelling place of dragons, and I will make the cities of Judah into desolation, because they are not inhabited.

Who is the prudent man, and let him understand this; and to whom is a word of the mouth of the Lord, let him declare it to you: because of what has the land perished, has it been kindled like a wilderness, so that no one passes through it?

And the Lord said to me, Because they have forsaken my law which I gave before their face, and they did not listen to my voice.

But they walked after the pleasing things of their evil heart, and after the idols which their fathers taught them

Therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel: behold, I myself will feed them with afflictions and I will give them water of gall to drink

and I will scatter them among the nations, into which neither they nor their fathers knew, and I will send the sword upon them until I consume them in it

Thus says the Lord: call for the mourning women, and let them come; and send to the wise women, and let them speak.

And let them take up a lament over you, and let your eyes bring down tears, and let your eyelids flow with water.

For a voice of lamentation has been heard in Zion: How we have been afflicted, we have been greatly put to shame, because we have left the land and have thrown down our tents.

Hear now, women, a word of God, and let your ears receive the words of his mouth, and teach your daughters lamentation, and each woman her neighbor, mourning

For death has come up through your windows; it has entered into your land, to destroy infants from outside and young men from the broad places.

And the dead bodies of the men shall be for an example on the face of the field of your land, and like grass behind the reaper, and there shall be no one gathering.

Thus says the Lord: let not the wise boast in his wisdom, and let not the strong boast in his strength, and let not the rich boast in his riches.

but let the one who boasts boast in this, to understand and to know that I am the Lord, doing mercy and judgment and righteousness on the earth; because in these things is my will, says the Lord

Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, and I will visit upon all the circumcised in their foreskin.

upon Egypt and upon Judea and upon Edom and upon the sons of Ammon and upon the sons of Moab and upon everyone who cuts the hair at the front of his face, those who dwell in the wilderness; for all the nations are uncircumcised in flesh, and all the house of Israel, uncircumcised in their hearts
