Arise and go down to the house of the potter, and there you shall hear my words
And I went down to the house of the potter, and behold, he himself was making a work on the stones.
And the vessel which he was making in his hands fell apart, and again he made it, another vessel, as it seemed good before him to make it.
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying
As this potter, shall I not be able to make you, O house of Israel? Behold, as the clay of the potter, so are you in my hands.
At some moment I will speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom, to root them out and to destroy them
and that nation turn back from all their evils, then I will repent concerning the evils that I planned to do to them
And I will speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to be built up and to be planted.
and they do the evil before me, so as not to hear my voice, then I will repent concerning the good things which I spoke to do to them
And now say to the men of Judah and to those dwelling in Jerusalem: Behold, I am fashioning evils against you and am devising a plan against you; let each one now turn back from his evil way, and make your practices better.
And they said, We will act boldly, for we will go after our own backslidings, and each one will do the things pleasing to his own evil heart.
Therefore thus says the Lord: ask now among the nations, who has heard such horrible things as a virgin Israel has done very greatly?
Will the breasts fail from a rock, or will snow from Lebanon turn aside? Will water, carried by a violent wind, be turned aside?
Because my people have forgotten me, in vain they offered incense, and they will be weakened in their ways, everlasting ropes, to mount paths not having a way for a journey
to make their land for destruction and an everlasting hissing; all who pass through it will be astonished and will shake their head over it
As a scorching wind I will scatter them before their enemies; I will show them the day of their destruction.
And they said, Come, let us devise a scheme against Jeremiah, because law shall not perish from the priest, and counsel from the prudent, and word from the prophet; come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us hear all his words.
Hear me, O Lord, and hear the voice of my cause.
Shall evils be repaid for good? For they spoke words against my soul, and they hid their punishment from me; remember me standing before you to speak good on behalf of them, to turn back your anger from them.
Therefore give their sons to famine, and gather them into the hands of the sword; let their wives become childless and widows, and let their men become slain by death, and their young men fallen by the sword in war.
Let a cry be in their houses; you shall bring robbers upon them suddenly, because they plotted a word for my seizure and hid snares against me.
And you, O Lord, know all their counsel against me for death; do not acquit their injustices and do not blot out their sins from before your face; let their weakness come to be before you; in the time of your wrath, do against them.
