ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ ἀκουστὰ ποιήσατε καὶ μὴ κρύψητε εἴπατε ἑάλωκεν Βαβυλών κατῃσχύνθη Βῆλος ἡ ἀπτόητος ἡ τρυφερὰ παρεδόθη Μαρωδαχ
Declare among the nations and make it heard, and do not hide it; say: Babylon has been captured, Bel has been put to shame, Merodach, the untouchable one, the delicate one, has been delivered up.
ἀνέβη ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν ἔθνος ἀπὸ βορρᾶ οὗτος θήσει τὴν γῆν αὐτῆς εἰς ἀφανισμόν καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ κατοικῶν ἐν αὐτῇ ἀπὸ ἀνθρώπου καὶ ἕως κτήνους
For a nation has gone up against it from the north; this one will make its land into desolation, and there will be no inhabitant in it, from man even to beast.
ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις καὶ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἥξουσιν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ιουδα ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό βαδίζοντες καὶ κλαίοντες πορεύσονται τὸν κύριον θεὸν αὐτῶν ζητοῦντες
In those days and at that time the sons of Israel themselves and the sons of Judah together shall come, walking and weeping they shall go, seeking the Lord their God.
Σιων ἐρωτήσουσιν τὴν ὁδόν ὧδε γὰρ τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν δώσουσιν καὶ ἥξουσιν καὶ καταφεύξονται πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεόν διαθήκη γὰρ αἰώνιος οὐκ ἐπιλησθήσεται
They will ask the way to Zion, for here they will set their face, and they will come and will flee to the Lord their God, for an everlasting covenant will not be forgotten.
ἀπολωλότα ἐγενήθη ὁ λαός μου οἱ ποιμένες αὐτῶν ἐξῶσαν αὐτούς ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη ἀπεπλάνησαν αὐτούς ἐξ ὄρους ἐπὶ βουνὸν ᾤχοντο ἐπελάθοντο κοίτης αὐτῶν
My people became lost sheep; their shepherds drove them out on the mountains, they led them astray from mountain to hill, they went, they forgot their resting place
οἱ εὑρίσκοντες αὐτοὺς κατανάλισκον αὐτούς οἱ ἐχθροὶ αὐτῶν εἶπαν μὴ ἀνῶμεν αὐτούς ἀνθ᾿ ὧν ἥμαρτον τῷ κυρίῳ νομῇ δικαιοσύνης τῷ συναγαγόντι τοὺς πατέρας αὐτῶν
All who found them devoured them; their enemies said, Let us not allow them to go away, because they sinned against the Lord, the pasture of righteousness, who gathered their fathers together.
ἐκ μέσου Βαβυλῶνος καὶ ἀπὸ γῆς Χαλδαίων καὶ ἐξέλθατε καὶ γένεσθε ὥσπερ δράκοντες κατὰ πρόσωπον προβάτων
Depart from the midst of Babylon and from the land of the Chaldeans, and go out, and become like dragons in front of sheep
ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐγείρω ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα συναγωγὰς ἐθνῶν ἐκ γῆς βορρᾶ καὶ παρατάξονται αὐτῇ ἐκεῖθεν ἁλώσεται ὡς βολὶς μαχητοῦ συνετοῦ οὐκ ἐπιστρέψει κενή
For behold, I am stirring up against Babylon assemblies of nations from the land of the north, and they shall array themselves against it; from there it shall be taken, like the arrow of a skillful warrior; it shall not return empty.
And Chaldea shall be for plunder; all who plunder it shall be filled.
ηὐφραίνεσθε καὶ κατεκαυχᾶσθε διαρπάζοντες τὴν κληρονομίαν μου διότι ἐσκιρτᾶτε ὡς βοΐδια ἐν βοτάνῃ καὶ ἐκερατίζετε ὡς ταῦροι
Because you rejoiced and boasted, plundering my inheritance; because you leaped about like calves in grass and bellowed like bulls.
Your mother was utterly put to shame, mother most last among the nations for good, desolate.
ὀργῆς κυρίου οὐ κατοικηθήσεται καὶ ἔσται εἰς ἀφανισμὸν πᾶσα καὶ πᾶς ὁ διοδεύων διὰ Βαβυλῶνος σκυθρωπάσει καὶ συριοῦσιν ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν πληγὴν αὐτῆς
Because of the anger of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, and every one who passes through Babylon shall be gloomy and shall hiss over all her plague.
Draw yourselves up against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her, do not spare your arrows.
ἐπ᾿ αὐτήν παρελύθησαν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτῆς ἔπεσαν αἱ ἐπάλξεις αὐτῆς καὶ κατεσκάφη τὸ τεῖχος αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐκδίκησις παρὰ θεοῦ ἐστιν ἐκδικεῖτε ἐπ᾿ αὐτήν καθὼς ἐποίησεν ποιήσατε αὐτῇ
Clap your hands against her; her hands have been loosened, her battlements have fallen, and her wall has been torn down, for it is vengeance from God; take vengeance on her as she did, do to her.
σπέρμα ἐκ Βαβυλῶνος κατέχοντα δρέπανον ἐν καιρῷ θερισμοῦ ἀπὸ προσώπου μαχαίρας Ἑλληνικῆς ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἀποστρέψουσιν καὶ ἕκαστος εἰς τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ φεύξεται
Cut off seed from Babylon, holding a sickle at the time of harvest; from before the Greek sword each one will turn back to his people, and each one will flee to his land.
πλανώμενον Ισραηλ λέοντες ἐξῶσαν αὐτόν ὁ πρῶτος ἔφαγεν αὐτὸν βασιλεὺς Ασσουρ καὶ οὗτος ὕστερον τὰ ὀστᾶ αὐτοῦ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος
A wandering sheep, Israel; lions have driven him out: the first devoured him, the king of Assyria, and this one afterward, the king of Babylon, has gnawed his bones
τοῦτο τάδε λέγει κύριος ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐκδικῶ ἐπὶ τὸν βασιλέα Βαβυλῶνος καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν αὐτοῦ καθὼς ἐξεδίκησα ἐπὶ τὸν βασιλέα Ασσουρ
Therefore thus says the Lord: behold, I take vengeance on the king of Babylon and on his land, as I took vengeance on the king of Assyria
ἀποκαταστήσω τὸν Ισραηλ εἰς τὴν νομὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ νεμήσεται ἐν τῷ Καρμήλῳ καὶ ἐν ὄρει Εφραιμ καὶ ἐν τῷ Γαλααδ καὶ πλησθήσεται ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ
And I will restore Israel to his pasture, and he shall graze in Carmel and on Mount Ephraim and in Gilead, and his soul shall be filled
ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις καὶ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ζητήσουσιν τὴν ἀδικίαν Ισραηλ καὶ οὐχ ὑπάρξει καὶ τὰς ἁμαρτίας Ιουδα καὶ οὐ μὴ εὑρεθῶσιν ὅτι ἵλεως ἔσομαι τοῖς ὑπολελειμμένοις ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς λέγει κύριος
In those days and at that time they shall seek the iniquity of Israel, and it shall not exist, and the sins of Judah, and they shall by no means be found, for I will be merciful to the ones left on the land, says the Lord
ἐπίβηθι ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐπ᾿ αὐτήν ἐκδίκησον μάχαιρα καὶ ἀφάνισον λέγει κύριος καὶ ποίει κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐντέλλομαί σοι
Go up against it bitterly, and against those who dwell on it; take vengeance with the sword and destroy, says the Lord, and do according to all that I command you
The sound of war and great destruction in the land of the Chaldeans
How has the hammer of all the earth been broken and shattered? How has Babylon become for destruction among the nations?
They will lay hands on you, and you will be captured, O Babylon, and you will not know where you are found and taken, because you opposed the Lord.
The Lord has opened his treasury and has brought out the vessels of his wrath, for a work for the Lord God in the land of the Chaldeans.
ἐληλύθασιν οἱ καιροὶ αὐτῆς ἀνοίξατε τὰς ἀποθήκας αὐτῆς ἐρευνήσατε αὐτὴν ὡς σπήλαιον καὶ ἐξολεθρεύσατε αὐτήν μὴ γενέσθω αὐτῆς κατάλειμμα
For her times have come; open her storehouses; search her as a cave, and destroy her; let there be no remnant of her.
αὐτῆς πάντας τοὺς καρπούς καὶ καταβήτωσαν εἰς σφαγήν οὐαὶ αὐτοῖς ὅτι ἥκει ἡ ἡμέρα αὐτῶν καὶ καιρὸς ἐκδικήσεως αὐτῶν
Dry up all her fruits, and let them come down to slaughter. Woe to them, because their day has come, and the time of their vengeance.
φευγόντων καὶ ἀνασῳζομένων ἐκ γῆς Βαβυλῶνος τοῦ ἀναγγεῖλαι εἰς Σιων τὴν ἐκδίκησιν παρὰ κυρίου θεοῦ ἡμῶν
The sound of fugitives and those being rescued from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance from the Lord our God
ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα πολλοῖς παντὶ ἐντείνοντι τόξον παρεμβάλετε ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν κυκλόθεν μὴ ἔστω αὐτῆς ἀνασῳζόμενος ἀνταπόδοτε αὐτῇ κατὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτῆς κατὰ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησεν ποιήσατε αὐτῇ ὅτι πρὸς τὸν κύριον ἀντέστη θεὸν ἅγιον τοῦ Ισραηλ
Summon many against Babylon; every one who bends the bow, encamp against her all around; let there be no one escaping her. Repay her according to her works; according to all that she did, do to her, because she has resisted the Lord, the holy God of Israel.
τοῦτο πεσοῦνται οἱ νεανίσκοι αὐτῆς ἐν ταῖς πλατείαις αὐτῆς καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ πολεμισταὶ αὐτῆς ῥιφήσονται εἶπεν κύριος
Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all her men, her warriors, shall be thrown down, says the Lord.
Behold, I am against you, the insolent one, says the Lord, because your day has come, and the time of your vengeance.
ἀσθενήσει ἡ ὕβρις σου καὶ πεσεῖται καὶ οὐκ ἔσται ὁ ἀνιστῶν αὐτήν καὶ ἀνάψω πῦρ ἐν τῷ δρυμῷ αὐτῆς καὶ καταφάγεται πάντα τὰ κύκλῳ αὐτῆς
And your insolence shall grow weak and shall fall, and there will not be one raising it up, and I will kindle a fire in its woodland, and it shall devour all things around it.
λέγει κύριος καταδεδυνάστευνται οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Ιουδα ἅμα πάντες οἱ αἰχμαλωτεύσαντες αὐτοὺς κατεδυνάστευσαν αὐτούς ὅτι οὐκ ἠθέλησαν ἐξαποστεῖλαι αὐτούς
Thus says the Lord: The sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been utterly oppressed, all at once; those who took them captive have oppressed them, because they were not willing to send them away.
ὁ λυτρούμενος αὐτοὺς ἰσχυρός κύριος παντοκράτωρ ὄνομα αὐτῷ κρίσιν κρινεῖ πρὸς τοὺς ἀντιδίκους αὐτοῦ ὅπως ἐξάρῃ τὴν γῆν καὶ παροξυνεῖ τοῖς κατοικοῦσι Βαβυλῶνα
and their redeemer is strong, the Lord Almighty is his name; he will surely judge judgment against his adversaries, so that he may remove the land and provoke those who dwell in Babylon
ἐπὶ τοὺς Χαλδαίους καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Βαβυλῶνα καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς μεγιστᾶνας αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς συνετοὺς αὐτῆς
a sword against the Chaldeans and against those dwelling in Babylon and against her nobles and against her wise men
A sword against her warriors, and they shall be weakened.
ἐπὶ τοὺς ἵππους αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ ἅρματα αὐτῶν μάχαιραν ἐπὶ τοὺς μαχητὰς αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν σύμμικτον τὸν ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῆς καὶ ἔσονται ὡσεὶ γυναῖκες μάχαιραν ἐπὶ τοὺς θησαυροὺς αὐτῆς καὶ διασκορπισθήσονται
A sword against their horses and against their chariots, a sword against their warriors and against the mixed multitude in her midst, and they shall become like women. A sword against her treasures, and they shall be scattered.
τῷ ὕδατι αὐτῆς ἐπεποίθει καὶ καταισχυνθήσονται ὅτι γῆ τῶν γλυπτῶν ἐστιν καὶ ἐν ταῖς νήσοις οὗ κατεκαυχῶντο
She relied on her water, and they shall be put to shame, because it is a land of carved images, and among the islands where they boasted
τοῦτο κατοικήσουσιν ἰνδάλματα ἐν ταῖς νήσοις καὶ κατοικήσουσιν ἐν αὐτῇ θυγατέρες σειρήνων οὐ μὴ κατοικηθῇ οὐκέτι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα
Therefore jackals shall dwell in the islands, and daughters of sirens shall dwell in it; it shall by no means be inhabited any more forever
κατέστρεψεν ὁ θεὸς Σοδομα καὶ Γομορρα καὶ τὰς ὁμορούσας αὐταῖς εἶπεν κύριος οὐ μὴ κατοικήσῃ ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπος καὶ οὐ μὴ παροικήσῃ ἐκεῖ υἱὸς ἀνθρώπου
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, says the Lord, so no man shall dwell there, and no son of man shall sojourn there.
Behold, a people is coming from the north, and a great nation and many kings shall be stirred up from the end of the earth
καὶ ἐγχειρίδιον ἔχοντες ἰταμός ἐστιν καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐλεήσῃ φωνὴ αὐτῶν ὡς θάλασσα ἠχήσει ἐφ᾿ ἵπποις ἱππάσονται παρεσκευασμένοι ὥσπερ πῦρ εἰς πόλεμον πρὸς σέ θύγατερ Βαβυλῶνος
Having a bow and a dagger, they are bold, and he will surely not spare; their voice will sound like the sea, they will ride on horses, prepared as fire for war against you, daughter of Babylon.
βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος τὴν ἀκοὴν αὐτῶν καὶ παρελύθησαν αἱ χεῖρες αὐτοῦ θλῖψις κατεκράτησεν αὐτοῦ ὠδῖνες ὡς τικτούσης
The king of Babylon heard their report, and his hands were weakened; distress seized him, pains as of one giving birth.
ὥσπερ λέων ἀναβήσεται ἀπὸ τοῦ Ιορδάνου εἰς τόπον Αιθαμ ὅτι ταχέως ἐκδιώξω αὐτοὺς ἀπ᾿ αὐτῆς καὶ πάντα νεανίσκον ἐπ᾿ αὐτὴν ἐπιστήσω ὅτι τίς ὥσπερ ἐγώ καὶ τίς ἀντιστήσεταί μοι καὶ τίς οὗτος ποιμήν ὃς στήσεται κατὰ πρόσωπόν μου
Behold, as a lion he shall go up from the Jordan to the place of Aetham, for quickly I will drive them out from it, and every young man against it I will appoint; for who is like me, and who will withstand me, and who is this shepherd who will stand before my face?
τοῦτο ἀκούσατε τὴν βουλὴν κυρίου ἣν βεβούλευται ἐπὶ Βαβυλῶνα καὶ λογισμοὺς αὐτοῦ οὓς ἐλογίσατο ἐπὶ τοὺς κατοικοῦντας Χαλδαίους ἐὰν μὴ διαφθαρῇ τὰ ἀρνία τῶν προβάτων αὐτῶν ἐὰν μὴ ἀφανισθῇ νομὴ ἀπ᾿ αὐτῶν
Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that he has counseled against Babylon and his plans that he has planned against the inhabitants of the Chaldeans: unless the lambs of their sheep are destroyed, unless pasture is removed from them.
For from the sound of the capture of Babylon the earth shall be shaken, and a cry among the nations shall be heard
