And it happened in the seventh month that Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elasa, of the royal seed, came, and ten men with him, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and they ate bread there together

And Ishmael arose, and the ten men who were with him, and they struck Gedaliah, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

and all the Judeans who were with him in Mizpah, and all the Chaldeans who were found there

And it came to pass on the second day, while he was striking Gedaliah, that no man knew it.

And men came from Shechem and from Salem and from Samaria, eighty men, having shaved off their beards and torn their garments and cutting themselves, and manna and frankincense in their hands, to bring into the house of the Lord

And Ishmael went out to meet them; they were walking and weeping, and he said to them, Enter to Gedaliah.

And it came to pass, when they had entered into the middle of the city, he slaughtered them into the cistern.

And ten men were found there, and they said to Ishmael, Do not kill us, for we have treasures in the field, wheat and barley, honey and oil; and he passed by and did not kill them in the midst of their brothers.

And the pit into which Ishmael cast all whom he struck, a great pit it is, this is what King Asa made because of Baasha king of Israel; Ishmael filled this with the wounded.

And Ishmael turned away all the people who had been left in Mizpah, and the daughters of the king, whom the chief cook had committed to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, and he went away to the other side of the sons of Ammon.

And Johanan son of Kareah heard, and all the leaders of the force who were with him, all the evils that Ishmael had done.

And they led out all their camp, and they went to make war against him, and they found him by much water in Gabaon

And it came to pass, when all the people with Ishmael saw Johanan and the leaders of the force that was with him

And they turned back to Johanan

And Ishmael was saved with eight men, and he went to the sons of Ammon.

And Joanan and all the commanders of the force with him took all the rest of the people whom he had turned back from Ishmael, the mighty men in war, and the women, and the rest, and the eunuchs whom he had turned back from Gabaon.

And they went away and sat in Gabaroth-Chamaam, which is toward Bethlehem, to go in, to enter into Egypt

from before the face of the Chaldeans, because they were afraid before them, because Ishmael struck Gedaliah, whom the king of Babylon had appointed in the land
