Truly I know that so it is; for how will a mortal be righteous before the Lord?
For if he should wish to be judged with him, he would not at all obey him, so as not to reply to one word of his from a thousand.
Wise in mind and mighty and great, who having become hard has endured before him?
He who removes mountains, and they do not know it, who overturns them in his anger
who shakes the under-heaven from its foundations, and its pillars are shaken
who says to the sun, and it does not rise, and he seals up the stars
He who stretched out the heaven alone and walks as on ground upon the sea
who makes the Pleiades and Hesperus and Arcturus and the chambers of the south
who does great and unsearchable things, glorious and marvelous things without number
If he passes over me, I shall not see it, and if he passes by me, neither thus have I known it
If he should take away, who will turn him back? Or who will say to him, What have you done?
For he himself has turned back wrath; under him the sea monsters were bent, those under heaven.
But if he should listen to me, indeed he will judge my words.
For even if I were righteous, he would not hear me; I would implore his judgment.
Even if I should call and he should hear, I do not believe that he has listened to me
For he crushes me with a storm; he has multiplied my wounds without cause.
For he does not let me breathe, but has filled me with bitterness.
For if indeed he prevails by strength, who then will resist his judgment?
For if I am righteous, my mouth will be impious; and if I am blameless, I shall prove crooked.
For if I have acted impiously, I do not know it in my soul, except that my life is taken away from me.
Therefore I said, he destroys both the great and the mighty by wrath
For the worthless perish by an extraordinary death, but the righteous are mocked.
For they are given into the hands of the ungodly; he covers the faces of its judges. But if not he, who is it?
But my life is lighter than a runner; they have fled, and they did not see.
Or is there a track of a way for ships, or of an eagle flying, seeking food?
If indeed I say, I will forget my speaking, bowing down in my face I will groan.
I am shaken by all my limbs, for I know that you will not hold me innocent
But since I am ungodly, why did I not die?
For if I wash myself with snow and cleanse myself with clean hands
Yet if I wash myself with snow water and cleanse my hands with lye, then you will plunge me into filth, and my garment will abhor me.
For he is not a man like me, with whom I might answer back, that we might come together to judgment.
If only there were our mediator and one who rebukes and one who hears between both of us
Let him remove his rod from me, and let not his fear terrify me.
then I will not be afraid, but I will speak, for I do not know it so
