The Koine Bible

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and says,

Will a wise man give an answer of understanding and fill his belly with pain?

rebuking with words in which there is no need, with sayings in which there is no profit

Truly, you too have cast off fear and have finished such words before the Lord.

For your mouth convicts you, and you have not distinguished the words of the powerful.

Your own mouth will convict you, and not I; but your lips will bear witness against you

Why then were you born the first of men, or were you brought forth before the hills?

Have you heard the counsel of the Lord, and has wisdom come to you?

For what do you know that we do not know, or what do you understand that we do not also?

Both the gray-haired man and the old man are among us, heavier in days than your father.

Are the small things by which you have sinned not enough? You have been scourged greatly; you have spoken exceedingly arrogantly.

Why has your heart dared, or what have your eyes brought against you?

For you have burst forth anger before the Lord, and you have brought out from your mouth such words.

For what mortal being is without blame, or how will one born of woman be righteous?

If in his holy ones he does not trust, and the heaven is not clean before him,

how much more an abominable and unclean man, drinking wrongdoing like drink!

But I will declare to you; listen to me. What indeed I have seen I will declare to you.

What wise men will declare, and their fathers did not hide it

To them alone was the land given, and no stranger passed among them.

All the life of the ungodly is in anxiety, but years numbered have been given to the ruler.

But his fear is in his ears; when he supposes already to be at peace, his ruin will come upon him.

Let him not trust to turn back from darkness, for he has already been appointed into iron hands.

He is assigned for food for vultures, and he knows in himself that a dark day is remaining for his fall.

Distress also and affliction shall hold him, as a captain first in front falling.

For he has raised hands against the Lord, and before the Lord Almighty he has acted stiff-necked.

and he has run against him with insolence, with the thickness of the boss of his shield

For he covered his face with his fat and made a band of fat upon his thighs.

And he would dwell in deserted cities, and he would enter into uninhabited houses; and what those men prepared, others will carry away.

Neither shall his possessions become rich, nor shall they remain; he shall surely not cast a shadow upon the earth.

Neither shall he escape from the darkness; the wind shall wither his shoot, and his blossom shall fall away.

Let him not trust that he will endure, for emptiness will result for him

His cutting shall be corrupted before its time, and his branch shall not at all be thickened.

Let him be stripped like an unripe grape before the time; and let him fall like the blossom of an olive tree.

For the testimony of the ungodly is death, but fire will burn the houses of gift-takers.

He conceives in the womb of pains, but it will go away empty to him, and his belly will bear deceit.
