I have heard many such things; all of you are miserable comforters.
For what? Is there not a setting in the words of the spirit? Or what will trouble you, that you answer?
I also could speak as you do, if only your soul were in place of mine; then I would marshal words against you and shake my head at you
But let strength be in my mouth, and I will not spare the movement of my lips.
For if I speak, my wound is not lessened; and if indeed I keep silent, how much less shall I be wounded?
But now he has made me worn out, a fool, decayed.
And you seized me; it became a witness, and my falsehood rose up in me; it answered against my face
In wrath he used me violently; he gnashed his teeth against me; the arrows of his assailants fell upon me.
He has leapt upon me with the spikes of eyes; he struck me sharply on the jaw, and they ran together against me
For the Lord has delivered me into the hands of the unjust, and he has thrown me down among the ungodly.
I was at peace, he scattered me; he took me by the hair, he tore me apart, he set me up like a target.
They surrounded me with spears, throwing at my kidneys, not sparing; they poured out my gall on the ground.
They threw me down, a fall upon a fall; they ran against me, strong men.
I have sewn sackcloth upon my skin, and my strength has been extinguished in the dust.
My belly is burnt up from weeping, and on my eyelids is a shadow.
But there was nothing unjust in my hands, and my prayer was pure.
O earth, cover not over my blood, and let there be no place for my cry.
And now behold, in the heavens is my witness, and my one who testifies for me is in the highest places
May my supplication come before the Lord, and before him may my eye drip for me.
Oh that a man might plead before the Lord, and a son of man before his neighbor.
But numbered years have come, and by a way by which I shall not return I shall go.
