But Job answered and says:

How long will you vex my soul and break me down with words?

Know then that the Lord has dealt with me thus; you speak against me and are not ashamed; you press hard upon me.

Yes indeed, truly I have gone astray; but with me lodges a deceiver.

But if indeed you magnify yourselves over me, then you reproach me.

Know then that it is the Lord who has troubled me, and he has raised up his stronghold against me

Behold, I laugh at reproach, and I will not speak; I will cry out, and there is no judgment anywhere.

He has walled me round, and I shall not pass through; and darkness has set on my face.

But he stripped the glory from me and took the crown from my head

He has broken me down all around, and I have gone away; but he has cut off my hope like a tree.

But he has dealt severely with me in wrath; and he has counted me as though I were an enemy.

His troops came together against me; they encircled me by my ways, lying in wait.

My brothers have stood away from me; they have known strangers rather than me; but my friends have become without mercy.

My close ones have not regarded me, and those who knew me have forgotten my name.

The neighbors of my house and my maidservants counted me a foreigner before them

I called my servant, and he did not listen; and my mouth entreated him.

And I begged my wife; and I kept calling to the sons of my concubines, flattering them.

Even young children despised me; when I rise up, they speak against me.

Those who knew me loathed me; those whom indeed I had loved rose up against me.

My skin and my flesh have rotted away, and my bones cling to my teeth.

Have mercy on me, have mercy on me, O friends, for the hand of the Lord has touched me.

Why then do you persecute me as also the Lord does, but from my flesh you are not satisfied?

For who would give that my words might be written, and that they might be set in a book forever?

that they were engraved with an iron stylus and with lead, or in rocks

For I know that he who is about to release me on the earth is everlasting

And when my skin, which endures these things, has been raised up; for these things have been accomplished for me by the Lord.

What I myself am conscious of, what my eye has seen and not another, all have been completed for me in my bosom

But if indeed you say, What shall we say before him? and we shall find a root of a word in him?

Be afraid then, you also, because of wrath, for wrath will come upon the lawless, and then they will know where their support is.
