Hear, hear my words, that this may not be from you this comfort to me
Bear with me, and I will speak; then you will not mock me.
For why is my complaint not of a man, or why should I not be angry?
Look upon me and marvel, placing the hand upon the cheek.
For even if I remember, I have been troubled; and my flesh has pains.
Why do the ungodly live, and have grown old, and also in wealth?
Their seed is before their face, and their children before their eyes
Their houses prosper, and fear is nowhere, and the rod from the Lord is not upon them.
Their ox did not miscarry; and it survived, having in the womb, and did not fail to calve.
They remain as sheep forever, and their children play before them.
They take up the tambourine and the harp, and they rejoice with the sound of a psalm.
They completed their life in good things, and in rest of Hades they slept.
And they say to the Lord, Depart from us; we do not wish to know your ways.
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him, and what profit, that we should meet him?
For their good things were in their hands, but the works of the ungodly he does not look upon.
Yet surely the lamp of the ungodly will be quenched, and destruction will come upon them, and pangs from wrath will seize them.
And they will be as straw before the wind, or as dust which a storm has taken away
May the things belonging to him fail for his sons; he will repay to him, and he will know.
Let his eyes see his own slaughter, but may he not be delivered by the Lord
For what is his desire in his house after him, and the number of his months has been divided?
Is it not the Lord who teaches understanding and knowledge, but he himself judges murders?
One dies in his full strength, wholly at ease and prosperous in everything.
His inner parts are full of fat, and his marrow is poured out.
But another dies in bitterness of soul, having eaten nothing good
And together they sleep in the earth, and corruption has covered them.
So I know you, that you press hard upon me with boldness.
For you will say, Where is the house of the ruler, and where is the shelter of the tents of the ungodly?
Ask those who pass by on the road, and you will not disregard their signs.
For the wicked is spared for the day of destruction, they are led away for the day of his wrath.
Who will declare his way before his face, and he himself has done it? Who will repay him?
And he himself was carried to the tombs, and he kept watch over the burial mound.
The clods of the torrent were sweet to him, and after him every man will go, and innumerable before him.
How then do you comfort me in vain, and my being at rest from you is nothing?
