δὲ προσθεὶς Ιωβ εἶπεν τῷ προοιμίῳ

And Job, having added again, said in the prologue

κύριος ὃς οὕτω με κέκρικεν καὶ ὁ παντοκράτωρ ὁ πικράνας μου τὴν ψυχήν

As the Lord lives, who has thus judged me, and the Almighty, who has embittered my soul,

μὴν ἔτι τῆς πνοῆς μου ἐνούσης πνεῦμα δὲ θεῖον τὸ περιόν μοι ἐν ῥισίν

Indeed, as long as my breath is still in me, and the divine spirit remaining to me is in my nostrils

λαλήσειν τὰ χείλη μου ἄνομα οὐδὲ ἡ ψυχή μου μελετήσει ἄδικα

my lips will not speak lawlessly, nor will my soul meditate unjustly

μοι εἴη δικαίους ὑμᾶς ἀποφῆναι ἕως ἂν ἀποθάνω οὐ γὰρ ἀπαλλάξω μου τὴν ἀκακίαν

Far be it from me to declare you righteous, until I die; for I will not let go of my innocence.

δὲ προσέχων οὐ μὴ προῶμαι οὐ γὰρ σύνοιδα ἐμαυτῷ ἄτοπα πράξας

I hold fast to righteousness and shall by no means let it go, for I am not conscious to myself of having done anything out of place.

But surely let my enemies be as the destruction of the ungodly, and those rising up against me as the ruin of the lawless.

τίς γάρ ἐστιν ἐλπὶς ἀσεβεῖ ὅτι ἐπέχει πεποιθὼς ἐπὶ κύριον ἆρα σωθήσεται

For what is the hope of the ungodly, because he holds fast, trusting in the Lord? Will he indeed be saved?

τὴν δέησιν αὐτοῦ εἰσακούσεται κύριος ἢ ἐπελθούσης αὐτῷ ἀνάγκης

Will the Lord then hear his prayer when distress comes upon him?

ἔχει τινὰ παρρησίαν ἔναντι αὐτοῦ ἢ ὡς ἐπικαλεσαμένου αὐτοῦ εἰσακούσεται αὐτοῦ

Will he have any confidence before him, or as of one who has called upon him, will he hear him?

δὴ ἀναγγελῶ ὑμῖν τί ἐστιν ἐν χειρὶ κυρίου ἅ ἐστιν παρὰ παντοκράτορι οὐ ψεύσομαι

But indeed I will declare to you what is in the hand of the Lord, what is with the Almighty; I will not lie.

δὴ πάντες οἴδατε ὅτι κενὰ κενοῖς ἐπιβάλλετε

Behold then, you all know that you bring empty things against emptiness.

ἡ μερὶς ἀνθρώπου ἀσεβοῦς παρὰ κυρίου κτῆμα δὲ δυναστῶν ἐλεύσεται παρὰ παντοκράτορος ἐπ᾿ αὐτούς

This is the portion of an ungodly man from the Lord, and the inheritance of tyrants will come from the Almighty upon them

δὲ πολλοὶ γένωνται οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς σφαγὴν ἔσονται ἐὰν δὲ καὶ ἀνδρωθῶσιν προσαιτήσουσιν

But if his sons become many, they will be for slaughter; and if they also grow to manhood, they will beg.

δὲ περιόντες αὐτοῦ ἐν θανάτῳ τελευτήσουσιν χήρας δὲ αὐτῶν οὐθεὶς ἐλεήσει

And those who survive him shall die by death, and no one shall pity their widows

συναγάγῃ ὥσπερ γῆν ἀργύριον ἴσα δὲ πηλῷ ἑτοιμάσῃ χρυσίον

Though he may heap up silver like dust and prepare gold like clay,

πάντα δίκαιοι περιποιήσονται τὰ δὲ χρήματα αὐτοῦ ἀληθινοὶ καθέξουσιν

These things all the righteous will acquire, but the wealth of him the true will possess.

δὲ ὁ οἶκος αὐτοῦ ὥσπερ σῆτες καὶ ὥσπερ ἀράχνη

But his house has become like moths’ nests and like a spider’s web

κοιμηθεὶς καὶ οὐ προσθήσει ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ διήνοιξεν καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν

The rich man lies down, but he shall not add to open his eyes, and he is no more.

αὐτῷ ὥσπερ ὕδωρ αἱ ὀδύναι νυκτὶ δὲ ὑφείλατο αὐτὸν γνόφος

Terrors have overtaken him like water; in the night gloom has taken him away.

αὐτὸν καύσων καὶ ἀπελεύσεται καὶ λικμήσει αὐτὸν ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ

The east wind shall take him up, and he shall depart, and it shall winnow him from his place.

ἐπιρρίψει ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν καὶ οὐ φείσεται ἐκ χειρὸς αὐτοῦ φυγῇ φεύξεται

and he will hurl upon him and will not spare; from his hand he will flee by fleeing

ἐπ᾿ αὐτοῦ χεῖρας αὐτοῦ καὶ συριεῖ αὐτὸν ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ

It will clap its hands at him and hiss him out of his place.
