For there is a place for silver, where it is produced, and a place for gold, where it is refined

For iron is indeed brought forth from the earth, and bronze is quarried like stone.

He has appointed a limit for darkness, and he himself searches out every farthest boundary, the stone of gloom and shadow of death.

A channel cut in a torrent, away from the dust; but those who forget the right way have become weak among mortals.

As for the earth, bread comes forth from it; beneath it it is turned as by fire.

Its stones are the place of sapphire, and its dust is gold.

A path of it no bird has known, and the eye of a vulture has not seen it.

The sons of the proud did not tread it; no lion passed over it.

Upon the flinty rock he stretched out his hand, and he overturned mountains from their roots.

He broke open the channels of rivers, and my eye has seen every precious thing.

He uncovered the depths of rivers, and he brought his power to light.

But wisdom, from where was it found? And what is the place of understanding?

Man does not know its way, nor shall it be found among men.

The abyss said, It is not in me, and the sea said, It is not with me.

It cannot be given for restraint in exchange for it, and silver will not be taken as its ransom.

And it shall not be weighed together with Ophir gold, with precious onyx and sapphire.

Gold and glass will not equal it, and its exchange is vessels of gold

High-priced things and gabis shall not be remembered, and draw wisdom more than the inner things.

Topaz of Ethiopia will not be equaled to it; it will not be weighed together with pure gold.

But wisdom, from where has it been found, and what is the place of understanding?

It is hidden from every man and has been concealed from the birds of the sky.

Destruction and death said, We have heard its fame.

God has rightly understood its way, and he himself knows its place.

For he himself looks upon all things under heaven, knowing all the things on the earth, all that he has made

for the wind a weight and for the waters measures

when he made rain in this way, he numbered also a way for the thunderstorm and sounds

then he saw it and declared it, having prepared it, he searched it out

And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom, but to abstain from evils is knowledge.
