But now the least of them mock me; now they admonish me in turn, those whose fathers I scorned, whom I did not consider worthy to be with the dogs of my flocks
Indeed, the strength of their hands—why then has it perished to me for them utterly?
in want and in famine barren, those who flee a waterless place yesterday, distress and misery
those who cut saltwort by the bushes, whose grain was the sea-thrift; worthless and despised, lacking every good thing, who also chewed the roots of trees because of great hunger
They rose up against me, thieves
whose houses were holes of rocks
Among the reeds they will cry out, those who lived under wild shrubs.
Sons of senseless men, and a name and a glory extinguished from the earth
But now I am their lyre, and I have become a byword to them.
And they abhorred me, having withdrawn far away, and they did not spare to spit in my face.
For he has opened his quiver and afflicted me, and they have sent away the bridle of my face.
On the right hand they rose up a brood; they extended their foot, and they made tracks against me the paths of their destruction.
My paths were broken up; for he stripped off my robe.
With his arrows he has pierced me; he uses me as he wills; I am mixed up in pains.
And my pains are turned back; my hope has gone away, like a spirit, and like a cloud my salvation.
And now my soul shall be poured out upon me; but days of pains have taken hold of me.
At night my bones are burned together, but my sinews are dissolved.
With great force it seized my garment; like the collar of my tunic it surrounded me.
And you have considered me as clay, and my portion in dust and ashes on the earth.
I cry out to you, but you do not hear me; they stood and regarded me.
But you turned cruelly against me; with a strong hand you scourged me.
But you have appointed me in pains, and you have cast me away from salvation.
For I know that death will crush me, for a house is for every mortal, the earth.
For if only I were able to lay hands on myself, or at least having asked another, and he will do this for me.
But I wept over every helpless man, and I groaned when I saw a man in distress.
But when I waited for good things, behold, days of evils met me rather.
My belly boils and will not be quiet; days of poverty have come upon me beforehand.
I go about mourning without restraint; and I stand in the assembly, crying out.
I have become a brother of jackals and a companion of ostriches
And my skin has become very dark, and my bones are from heat.
And my harp has turned into mourning, and my song into weeping for me.
