I made a covenant with my eyes, and I will not understand upon a virgin.

And what has God apportioned from above, and an inheritance from the Most High?

Is not destruction for the unjust and alienation for those who do lawlessness?

Does he not see my way and count all my steps?

If indeed I had gone about with mockers, and if indeed my foot hastened to deceit

Let me be weighed in a just balance, and the Lord knows my innocence.

If my foot has turned aside from the way, or if indeed my heart followed after my eye, or if indeed with my hands I have touched gifts,

Let me sow, and then let others eat; and let me become rooted out upon the earth.

If my heart followed after another man’s wife, or if I lay in wait at her doors,

then let my wife also please another, and let my children be humbled by another.

For it is a wrath of anger, uncontrollable, to defile a man’s wife

For it is a fire burning upon all its parts; wherever it may come, it has destroyed from the roots.

And if I despised the judgment of my male servant or female servant when they were being judged with me,

For what shall I do, if the Lord makes his examination of me, and if also a visitation? What answer shall I make?

Did not he who made me in the womb make him also, and were we not formed in the same belly?

But I did not fail the needy in whatever need they had, and I did not waste the eye of the widow.

if I also ate my morsel alone, and did not share it with an orphan

For from my youth I nourished him as a father, and from my mother’s womb I guided her outward

If indeed I also overlooked one perishing naked and did not clothe him

if the helpless did not bless me, and from the fleece of my lambs their shoulders were warmed

If I lifted up my hand against an orphan, trusting that much help was around me,

then let my shoulder fall away from my collarbone, and my arm be broken from my elbow

For the fear of the Lord restrained me, and because of his taking I did not endure.

If I made gold my strength, and if indeed I trusted in a precious stone,

If also I rejoiced because much wealth had come to me, if also I laid my hand upon innumerable things

if I saw the sun shining forth and the moon fading away, for it is not over them

and if my heart was deceived secretly, and if also, putting my hand upon my mouth, I kissed it

and this would therefore be reckoned to me as the greatest lawlessness, that I lied before the Lord Most High

If indeed I also rejoiced at the downfall of my enemies, and my heart said, Well done,

let my ear hear my curse, and let me be lamented by my people, being afflicted

But if also my maidservants often said, Who would give us to be filled with his flesh?—while I was very kindly disposed,

But a stranger did not lodge outside, and my door was open to everyone who came.

But if I too, having sinned unwittingly, hid my sin,

For I did not fear the great crowd so as not to declare before them; but even if I allowed one unable to go out, my door in vain with my bosom empty.

O that one would give me a hearing! behold, the hand of the Lord; if I had not feared, but the writing which I had against someone.

I would wear it on my shoulders as a crown; I would read it aloud.

and if not, having torn it up, I would return it, having taken nothing from the debtor

If ever the earth groaned over me, and if its furrows also wept together,

If I alone ate its strength without payment, if I even, having cast out the life of the lord of the land, grieved it

Instead of wheat, then, let nettle come forth to me, and instead of barley, a thorn-bush; and Job ceased from words.
