Then Elius answered and says

Hear me, wise men, and understand the good.

For the ear tests words, and the throat tastes food.

Let us choose for ourselves judgment; let us know among ourselves what is good.

For Job has said, I am righteous, the Lord has taken away my judgment.

my arrow was violent in its judgment; it lied, without injustice

What man is like Job, drinking scorn like water?

who has not sinned nor acted impiously, or shared the way with those doing lawless things, to walk with the impious

For he has said, It is not man's concern, and concern for him is from the Lord.

Therefore, men of understanding in heart, hear me: far be it from me to act wickedly before the Lord and to pervert justice before the Almighty.

For he repays a man according to what each one of them does, and in the path of a man he will find him

Do you think the Lord will do wrong, or the Almighty will pervert judgment?

who made the earth? and who is he who makes under heaven and all the things in it?

For if he should wish to hold it together, and to keep the spirit with him,

All flesh will perish together, and every mortal will depart to the earth, from where also he was formed

But if not, understand this; listen, give ear to the sound of words.

Behold, you the one hating lawlessness and the one destroying the wicked, being eternal, righteous

Is it fitting to say to a king, You act lawlessly, most impious one to rulers?

who did not respect the person of the honorable, nor did he know to set honor for the great, that their faces should be admired

But crying out and begging a man will turn out empty for them, for they used lawlessly to turn aside powerless men

For he is a watcher of the works of men, and nothing of what they do is hidden from him.

Nor will there be a place to hide those who do lawless things.

For he will no longer appoint a time for a man, for the Lord watches over all.

He who seizes unsearchable things, both glorious and extraordinary, of which there is no number

he who knows their works, and he will overturn them in the night, and they will be humbled

And he has extinguished the ungodly; and they are visible before him.

because they turned aside from the law of God, and his ordinances they did not know

to bring upon him the outcry of the poor, and he will hear the outcry of the needy

And he himself will grant quiet, and who will condemn? and he will hide his face, and who will see him? both against a nation and against a man alike

when a hypocritical man reigns, from the trouble of the people

For to the Mighty One, he who says, I have received, I will not pledge.

Without myself I will see; you show me if I have done injustice; I will surely not add.

Shall he exact it from you because you rejected it, because you choose and not I? And what you know, speak.

Therefore men of understanding in heart will say these things, and a wise man has heard my speech

Job spoke not with understanding, and his words not with knowledge

Indeed, learn, Job; do not still give an answer like the foolish ones.

so that we may not add lawlessness to our sins, and it will be reckoned against us, of speaking many words against the Lord
