Send for yourself men, and let them spy out the land of the Canaanites, which I am giving to the sons of Israel for possession, one man according to a tribe, according to the clans of their families; you shall send them, each one a leader from among them.
And Moses sent them out from the wilderness of Pharan by the command of the Lord, all men, heads of the sons of Israel, these.
And these are their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shalamiel son of Zaccur
of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Suri
of the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh
of the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph
of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun
of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu
of the tribe of Zebulun, Goudiel son of Soudi
of the tribe of Joseph, of the sons of Manasseh, Gaddi son of Susi
of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gamaliel
of the tribe of Asher, Sathour son of Michael
of the tribe of Naphtali, Nabi son of Jabi
of the tribe of Gad, Goudiel son of Machchi
These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, and Moses gave name to Ausē, the son of Nauē, Jesus.
And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and he said to them, Go up by this wilderness, and you shall go up into the mountain.
And you shall see the land, what it is, and the people that sit in it, whether it is stronger or weak, whether they are few or many
and what is the land into which these are dwelling upon it, whether it is good or bad, and what are the cities into which these dwell, in them, whether in walled places or in unwalled places
and what the land is, whether rich or impoverished, whether there are trees in it or not; and by persevering you shall take some of the fruit of the land. Now the days were the days of the first-ripe grapes.
And they went up and surveyed the land from the wilderness of Sin as far as Rehob, as Hamatheth entered into it
And they went up by way of the wilderness and came as far as Hebron; and there Ahiman and Sheshai and Talmai, offspring of Anak. And Hebron was built seven years before Tanin of Egypt.
And they came as far as the Valley of the Cluster and spied it out, and they cut from there a branch and one cluster of grapes on it, and they took it on a carrying pole, and from the pomegranates and from the figs
That place they named the Valley of the Cluster because of the cluster that the sons of Israel cut down from there
And they returned from there after scouting out the land for forty days.
And they went and came to Moses and Aaron and to all the assembly of the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, Kadesh, and they answered them with a word and to all the assembly, and they showed the fruit of the land
And they reported to him and said, We came into the land into which you sent us, a land flowing with milk and honey; and this is its fruit.
Nevertheless, that the nation that dwells upon it is bold, and the cities are fortified, walled, and very large, and we have seen there the race of Anak.
And Amalek dwells in the land toward the south, and the Hittite and the Hivite and the Jebusite and the Amorrite dwell in the hill country, and the Canaanite dwells by the sea and by the Jordan river.
And Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said to him, No, but by going up we will go up and we will take possession of it, for we shall surely be able against them
And the men who had gone up with him said, We are not going up, because we shall by no means be able to go up against the nation, because it is much stronger than we are.
And they brought out a report of the land which they had scouted, to the sons of Israel, saying, The land which we passed through to scout it is a land devouring its inhabitants; all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.
And there we saw the giants, and we were before them like locusts, but even so we were before them
