Command the sons of Israel, and they shall give to the Levites from the portions of their possession cities to dwell in, and the pasture lands of the cities around them they shall give to the Levites
And the cities shall be for them to dwell in, and their open lands shall be for their livestock and for all their four-footed animals.
And the suburbs of the cities which you shall give to the Levites, from the wall of the city and outward, two thousand cubits round about
And you shall measure outside the city the side toward the east two thousand cubits, and the side toward the south two thousand cubits, and the side toward the west two thousand cubits, and the side toward the north two thousand cubits, and the city shall be in the middle of this for you, and the borders of the cities
And the cities you shall give to the Levites, the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the one who has killed to flee there, and besides these forty-two cities
All the cities you shall give to the Levites, forty-eight cities, these and their pasture lands.
And the cities which you shall give from the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many many and from the fewer fewer, each according to his inheritance which they shall inherit, they shall give from the cities to the Levites.
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying
Speak to the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them: You are crossing over the Jordan into the land of Canaan.
And you shall appoint for yourselves cities; they shall be places of refuge for you, for the slayer to flee there, everyone who has struck a person unintentionally.
And the cities shall be for you places of refuge from the avenger of blood, and the manslayer shall not die until he stand before the congregation for judgment
And the cities that you shall give, the six cities, shall be for you cities of refuge.
The three cities you shall give on the other side of the Jordan, and the three cities you shall give in the land of Canaan.
These cities shall be a refuge for the sons of Israel and for the proselyte and for the sojourner among you; these cities shall be for a place of refuge, for anyone who strikes a soul unintentionally to flee there.
But if with an instrument of iron he strike him, and he die, he is a murderer; let the murderer be put to death by death.
But if he strikes him with a stone in the hand, by which he may die, and he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.
And if in a wooden implement from the hand, with which one may die, he strikes him and he dies, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death.
The avenger of blood, this one shall kill the manslayer; when he meets him, this one shall kill him.
And if, with enmity, he thrusts him and throws at him any implement from ambush, and he dies
or in anger struck him with the hand and he die, let the one who struck be put to death by death; he is a murderer, the one who struck; let the murderer be put to death by death; the one avenging the blood, the next of kin, shall kill the murderer when he meets him
But if suddenly, not through enmity, he thrusts him or throws upon him any implement, not from lying in wait
or with any stone by which one shall die, not knowing, and he falls on him and he dies, and he was not his enemy, nor seeking to harm him
and the congregation shall judge between the one who struck and between the blood avenger according to these judgments
And the congregation shall deliver the manslayer from the blood avenger, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge to which he fled, and he shall dwell there until the great priest dies, whom they anointed with the holy oil
But if the manslayer should go out beyond the borders of the city to which he fled there
and if the avenger of blood finds him outside the borders of the city of his refuge and the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he is not guilty
For in the city of refuge let him dwell until the great priest dies, and after the great priest has died the manslayer shall return to the land of his possession.
And these shall be for you as a statute of judgment throughout your generations in all your dwellings
Whoever strikes a person, by witnesses you shall put to death the murderer, and one witness shall not testify against a person to be put to death.
And you shall not take ransom for a life from the manslayer who is guilty to be put to death, for he shall surely be put to death.
You shall not take a ransom for fleeing to a city of refuge, to dwell again on the land, until the great priest dies.
And you shall by no means defile the land in which you dwell, for this blood defiles the land, and the land shall not be cleansed from the blood that has been shed on it, except by the blood of the one who shed it.
And you shall not defile the land in which you dwell, on which I dwell among you; for I am the Lord who dwells in the midst of the sons of Israel.
