The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord God concerning Idumea: I have heard a report from the Lord, and an envoy among the nations he sent: Rise up, and let us rise up against her for war.

Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are greatly despised.

The pride of your heart has lifted you up, you who dwell in the clefts of the rocks, whose habitation is on high, saying in his heart, Who will bring me down to the earth?

Though you soar aloft like an eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down, says the Lord

If thieves came in to you, or night robbers, where would you have been cast away? Would they not have stolen what was sufficient for themselves? And if grape gatherers came in to you, would they not have left behind a gleaning?

How Esau has been searched out, and his hidden things have been seized!

All the men of your covenant sent you forth as far as your borders; they resisted you; they prevailed against you; your peaceable men set an ambush under you; there is no understanding in them.

In that day, says the Lord, I will destroy the wise men from Idumea, and understanding from Mount Esau.

And your warriors shall be terrified, those from Theiman, so that a man may be cut off from the mountain of Esau

Because of the slaughter and the impiety toward your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever

From the day when you stood opposite in the day of foreigners taking captive his force, and aliens entered into his gates and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even you were as one of them

And do not look on the day of your brother in the day of strangers, and do not rejoice over the sons of Judah in the day of their destruction, and do not boast in the day of distress

And do not enter into the gates of the peoples in the day of their distress, and do not gaze also you on their assembly in the day of their destruction, and do not lay hands on their wealth in the day of their ruin

And do not stand at the outlets to cut off their survivors, and do not shut up those who escape from them in the day of affliction.

For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations; as you have done, so it shall be to you. Your recompense shall be repaid upon your head.

For as you drank on my holy mountain, so all the nations shall drink continually; they shall drink and they shall go down and they shall be as though they were not existing.

But in Mount Zion there will be salvation, and there will be holiness, and the house of Jacob will inherit those who inherited them.

And the house of Jacob will be fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble; and they will burn against them and devour them, and there will not be a carrier of grain in the house of Esau, for the Lord has spoken.

And those in the Negeb shall inherit the mountain of Esau, and those in the Shephela the Philistines; and they shall inherit the mountain of Ephraim and the plain of Samaria, and Benjamin, and Gileaditis.

And this is the beginning of the exile for the sons of Israel: the land of the Canaanites as far as Zarephath, and the exile of Jerusalem as far as Ephrathah, and they shall inherit the cities of the Negeb

And saviors shall go up from Mount Zion to take vengeance on the mountain of Esau, and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s
