A prudent servant will rule over foolish masters, and among brothers he will divide portions.
As silver and gold are tested in a furnace, so chosen hearts are with the Lord.
An evil man listens to the tongue of lawless men, but a righteous man pays no attention to lying lips.
καταγελῶν πτωχοῦ παροξύνει τὸν ποιήσαντα αὐτόν ὁ δὲ ἐπιχαίρων ἀπολλυμένῳ οὐκ ἀθῳωθήσεται ὁ δὲ ἐπισπλαγχνιζόμενος ἐλεηθήσεται
He who mocks the poor provokes the one who made him; but he who rejoices over one being destroyed will not go unpunished; but he who shows compassion will be shown mercy.
γερόντων τέκνα τέκνων καύχημα δὲ τέκνων πατέρες αὐτῶν πιστοῦ ὅλος ὁ κόσμος τῶν χρημάτων τοῦ δὲ ἀπίστου οὐδὲ ὀβολός
Grandchildren are the crown of old men, and the glory of children are their fathers.
Exalted speech is not fitting for a fool, nor false lips for a righteous man.
A gift of graces is discipline for those using it; wherever it may turn, it will prosper
He who conceals wrongdoings seeks friendship, but he who hates to conceal separates friends and relatives.
A rebuke breaks a prudent heart, but a fool, though flogged, does not feel it.
Every evil person stirs up strife, but the Lord will send against him a cruel messenger.
Let worry fall upon a sensible man, but fools devise evils.
Whoever repays evils for good things, evils shall not be moved from his house.
The beginning of righteousness gives authority to words, but strife and fighting precede want.
He who judges the unjust as righteous, and the righteous as unjust, is unclean and abominable before God.
τί ὑπῆρξεν χρήματα ἄφρονι κτήσασθαι γὰρ σοφίαν ἀκάρδιος οὐ δυνήσεται ὑψηλὸν ποιεῖ τὸν ἑαυτοῦ οἶκον ζητεῖ συντριβήν ὁ δὲ σκολιάζων τοῦ μαθεῖν ἐμπεσεῖται εἰς κακά
Why is there money in the hand of a fool? For to acquire wisdom, one without heart will not be able.
Let a friend be present to you at every time, but let brothers be useful in necessities, for on account of this they are born.
A foolish man claps and rejoices over himself, as also he who guarantees by surety for his own friend.
He who loves sin rejoices in strife.
But the hard-hearted man does not meet with good things; a man who is changeable in speech will fall into evils.
δὲ ἄφρονος ὀδύνη τῷ κεκτημένῳ αὐτήν οὐκ εὐφραίνεται πατὴρ ἐπὶ υἱῷ ἀπαιδεύτῳ υἱὸς δὲ φρόνιμος εὐφραίνει μητέρα αὐτοῦ
But a fool’s heart is grief to the one who possesses it; a father does not rejoice over an undisciplined son, but a prudent son makes his mother rejoice.
A cheerful heart makes good health, but a sorrowful one dries up the bones.
When one takes gifts in the bosom unjustly, the ways are not prospered; but the ungodly turns aside from the paths of righteousness.
The face of a wise man is understanding, but the eyes of a fool are at the ends of the earth.
A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.
To fine a righteous man is not good, nor is it holy to plot against righteous rulers.
He who spares his word is knowledgeable, and a long-suffering man is prudent.
Even to a fool asking wisdom, wisdom will be reckoned; but one who has made himself mute will seem to be prudent.
