ὑπὲρ σὲ μὴ ἄρῃς καὶ ἰσχυροτέρῳ σου καὶ πλουσιωτέρῳ μὴ κοινώνει τί κοινωνήσει χύτρα πρὸς λέβητα αὕτη προσκρούσει καὶ αὕτη συντριβήσεται
Do not lift a burden above your strength, and do not associate yourself with one stronger than you and richer than you; what will a pot share with a kettle? This will collide, and this will be broken to pieces.
A rich man has wronged, and he himself has shown insolence; a poor man has been wronged, and he himself will be in need.
If you are useful, he works in you, and if you lack, he will leave you.
If you have, he will live with you and will make you desolate, and he himself will not be troubled.
ἔσχηκέν σου καὶ ἀποπλανήσει σε καὶ προσγελάσεταί σοι καὶ δώσει σοι ἐλπίδα λαλήσει σοι καλὰ καὶ ἐρεῖ τίς ἡ χρεία σου
He has need of you and will lead you astray and will smile at you and will give you hope; he will speak good things to you and will say, What is your need?
αἰσχυνεῖ σε ἐν τοῖς βρώμασιν αὐτοῦ ἕως οὗ ἀποκενώσῃ σε δὶς ἢ τρίς καὶ ἐπ᾿ ἐσχάτων καταμωκήσεταί σου μετὰ ταῦτα ὄψεταί σε καὶ καταλείψει σε καὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ κινήσει ἐπὶ σοί
And he will shame you with his food until he empties you twice or three times, and at the last he will mock you; afterward he will look at you and leave you, and he will shake his head over you.
Take heed lest you be led astray, and lest you be humbled in your foolishness.
When a ruler has called you, withdraw and be yielding, and he will call you the more.
Do not fall upon him, lest you be thrust away, and do not stand far off, lest you be forgotten
ἔπεχε ἰσηγορεῖσθαι μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ καὶ μὴ πίστευε τοῖς πλείοσιν λόγοις αὐτοῦ ἐκ πολλῆς γὰρ λαλιᾶς πειράσει σε καὶ ὡς προσγελῶν ἐξετάσει σε
Do not be eager to speak equally with him, and do not trust his many words, for from much talk he will test you, and as if smiling he will examine you
Merciless is he who does not keep words, and he will by no means spare concerning ill-treatment and bonds
Keep and pay close attention, because with your downfall you are walking.
Every living creature loves its like, and every person his neighbor
Every flesh gathers according to kind, and a man will cling to his like.
What partnership has a wolf with a lamb? So a sinner with a godly man.
What peace is there for a hyena with a dog, and what peace is there for a rich man with a poor man?
Wild asses are the prey of lions in the wilderness; so the poor are the pastures of the rich.
Humility is an abomination to a proud man; so also a poor man is an abomination to a rich man.
A rich man being shaken is upheld by friends, but a poor man falling is pushed away by friends
σφαλέντος πολλοὶ ἀντιλήμπτορες ἐλάλησεν ἀπόρρητα καὶ ἐδικαίωσαν αὐτόν ταπεινὸς ἔσφαλεν καὶ προσεπετίμησαν αὐτῷ ἐφθέγξατο σύνεσιν καὶ οὐκ ἐδόθη αὐτῷ τόπος
When a rich man stumbles, many are his helpers; he has spoken secret things, and they justified him. A humble man stumbled, and they rebuked him. He spoke understanding, and no place was given to him.
ἐλάλησεν καὶ πάντες ἐσίγησαν καὶ τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ ἀνύψωσαν ἕως τῶν νεφελῶν πτωχὸς ἐλάλησεν καὶ εἶπαν τίς οὗτος κἂν προσκόψῃ προσανατρέψουσιν αὐτόν
A rich man spoke, and all were silent, and they exalted his word up to the clouds; a poor man spoke, and they said, Who is this? And even if he stumbles, they will overturn him.
Good is wealth in which there is no sin, and evil is poverty in the mouth of the ungodly.
The heart of a man changes his face, whether for good or whether for evil.
The trace of a heart is a cheerful face in good things, and the finding of parables is thoughts with labors
