Wakefulness over wealth wastes away the flesh, and its care drives away sleep.

Care for sleeplessness will drive away drowsiness, and a severe sickness will rouse sleep.

The rich man has toiled in the gathering of money, and in his rest he is filled with his delicacies.

The poor man labors in lack of livelihood, and in rest he becomes needy.

He who loves gold will not be justified, and he who pursues profit in them will go astray.

Many have been given into a fall for the sake of gold, and their destruction came before their face.

It is a stumbling block of wood to those who are excited about it, and every fool shall be caught in it.

Blessed is the rich man who has been found blameless and who has not gone after gold

Who is he? and we will bless him, for he has done wonders among his people.

Who was tested in it and was perfected and will be to him for boasting? Who was able to transgress and did not transgress, and to do evil and did not do it?

His good things will be established, and his alms he will recount in the assembly.

Have you sat at a great table, do not open your throat upon it, and do not say many things on it.

Remember that an evil eye is evil, more evil than an eye; what has been created because of this? For this reason it weeps from every face.

Wherever he may look, do not stretch out your hand, and do not press him down in a dish.

Consider your neighbor’s matters from yourself, and in every matter reflect.

Eat as a man the things set before you, and do not chew greedily, lest you be hated

Cease first for the sake of discipline, and be not insatiable, lest you stumble.

And if among many you have sat down, do not stretch out your hand before them.

As enough for a man who has been disciplined, the little, and on his couch he does not pant

Sleep of health is over a moderate stomach; he rises early, and his soul is with him. Labor of sleeplessness and of bile and twisting pain with a man who is insatiable

And if you have been forced in foods, rise up, go far away, and you will rest.

Hear me, child, and do not despise me, and at the last you will find my words. In all your works be diligent, and no sickness at all will meet you.

A cheerful face upon bread will bless with lips, and the testimony of his beauty is faithful.

At a bad man over bread a city will grumble, and the testimony of his wickedness is exact

Do not play the man in wine, for wine has destroyed many.

A furnace tests the temper in the dyeing; so wine of the heart in the conflict of the proud.

Wine is as life to men, if you drink it in its measure; what is life with wine being diminished? And it itself has been created for joy to men.

Gladness of heart and joy of soul is wine drunk in season and in sufficiency

Bitterness of soul is much wine drunk in provocation and stumbling.

Drunkenness increases the wrath of a fool to stumbling, diminishing strength and causing wounds

At a wine banquet do not rebuke your neighbor, and do not despise him in his rejoicing. Do not speak to him a word of reproach, and do not afflict him in a demand.
