But how shall I be able to receive the silver, and I do not know him?
ἔδωκεν αὐτῷ τὸ χειρόγραφον καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ζήτησον σεαυτῷ ἄνθρωπον ὃς συμπορεύσεταί σοι καὶ δώσω αὐτῷ μισθόν ἕως ζῶ καὶ λαβὲ πορευθεὶς τὸ ἀργύριον
And he gave him the handwriting, and said to him, Seek for yourself a man who will go along with you, and I will give him wages while I live, and take the silver and go.
And he went to seek a man, and he found Raphael, who was an angel, and he did not know it.
And he said to him, If I am able to go with you to Rages of Media, and if you are experienced in the places.
εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἄγγελος πορεύσομαι μετὰ σοῦ καὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἐμπειρῶ καὶ παρὰ Γαβαηλ τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν ηὐλίσθην
And the angel said to him, I will go with you, and I am experienced with the way, and I have lodged with Gabael our brother.
And Tobias said to him, Wait for me, and I will speak to my father.
And he said to him, Go, and do not delay.
εἰσελθὼν εἶπεν τῷ πατρί ἰδοὺ εὕρηκα ὃς συμπορεύσεταί μοι ὁ δὲ εἶπεν φώνησον αὐτὸν πρός με ἵνα ἐπιγνῶ ποίας φυλῆς ἐστιν καὶ εἰ πιστὸς τοῦ πορευθῆναι μετὰ σοῦ
And he went in and said to the father, Behold, I have found one who will go with me. And he said, Call him to me, that I may learn of what tribe he is and whether he is trustworthy to go with you.
And he called him, and he entered, and they greeted one another.
And Tobit said to him, Brother, from what tribe and from what homeland are you? Show me.
εἶπεν αὐτῷ φυλὴν καὶ πατριὰν σὺ ζητεῖς ἢ μίσθιον ὃς συμπορεύσεται μετὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ σου καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τωβιτ βούλομαι ἄδελφε ἐπιγνῶναι τὸ γένος σου καὶ τὸ ὄνομα
And he said to him, Are you seeking a tribe and a family, or a hired man who will journey with your son? And Tobit said to him, Brother, I wish to know your family and your name.
And he said, I am Azarias son of Ananias, the great one of your brothers.
εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὑγιαίνων ἔλθοις ἄδελφε καὶ μή μοι ὀργισθῇς ὅτι ἐζήτησα τὴν φυλήν σου καὶ τὴν πατριάν σου ἐπιγνῶναι καὶ σὺ τυγχάνεις ἀδελφός μου ἐκ τῆς καλῆς καὶ ἀγαθῆς γενεᾶς ἐπεγίνωσκον γὰρ ἐγὼ Ανανιαν καὶ Ιαθαν τοὺς υἱοὺς Σεμειου τοῦ μεγάλου ὡς ἐπορευόμεθα κοινῶς εἰς Ιεροσόλυμα προσκυνεῖν ἀναφέροντες τὰ πρωτότοκα καὶ τὰς δεκάτας τῶν γενημάτων καὶ οὐκ ἐπλανήθησαν ἐν τῇ πλάνῃ τῶν ἀδελφῶν ἡμῶν ἐκ ῥίζης καλῆς εἶ ἄδελφε
And he said to him, May you come in health, brother, and do not be angry with me, because I sought to know your tribe and your fatherland; and you happen to be my brother from a good and noble lineage. For I knew Ananias and Jathan, the sons of Shemias the great, as we were going together to Jerusalem to worship, bringing up the firstfruits and the tithes of the produce, and they were not led astray in the wandering of our brothers. You are from a good root, brother.
But tell me what wage I shall be giving you: a drachma for the day, and the things due to you, as also to my son.
and I will still add to you on the wages if you return in good health
εὐδόκησαν οὕτως καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς Τωβιαν ἕτοιμος γίνου πρὸς τὴν ὁδόν καὶ εὐοδωθείητε καὶ ἡτοίμασεν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ τὰ πρὸς τὴν ὁδόν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ πορεύου μετὰ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὁ δὲ ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ οἰκῶν θεὸς εὐοδώσει τὴν ὁδὸν ὑμῶν καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος αὐτοῦ συμπορευθήτω ὑμῖν καὶ ἐξῆλθαν ἀμφότεροι ἀπελθεῖν καὶ ὁ κύων τοῦ παιδαρίου μετ᾿ αὐτῶν
And they were pleased thus, and he said to Tobiah, Be ready for the journey, and may you prosper on the way. And his son prepared the things for the journey, and his father said to him, Go with the man, and the God who dwells in heaven will prosper your way, and may his angel go with you. And both went out to depart, and the dog of the boy with them.
δὲ Αννα ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς Τωβιτ τί ἐξαπέστειλας τὸ παιδίον ἡμῶν ἢ οὐχὶ ἡ ῥάβδος τῆς χειρὸς ἡμῶν ἐστιν ἐν τῷ εἰσπορεύεσθαι αὐτὸν καὶ ἐκπορεύεσθαι ἐνώπιον ἡμῶν
And Anna his mother wept and said to Tobit, Why did you send away our child? Is it not the staff of our hand in his going in and going out before us?
May money not surpass the money, but let it become the offscouring of our child.
For as it has been given to us to live by the Lord, this is sufficient for us.
And Tobit said to her, Have no worry, sister; being in good health he will come, and your eyes will see him.
For a good angel will go with him, and his way will prosper, and he will return in health.
And she ceased weeping.
