εἶπεν ἐν ἑαυτῷ ἐγὼ ᾐτησάμην θάνατον τί οὐ καλῶ Τωβιαν τὸν υἱόν μου ἵνα αὐτῷ ὑποδείξω πρὶν ἀποθανεῖν με
And he said within himself, I have asked for death; why do I not call Tobias my son, that I may show him before I die?
καλέσας αὐτὸν εἶπεν παιδίον ἐὰν ἀποθάνω θάψον με καὶ μὴ ὑπερίδῃς τὴν μητέρα σου τίμα αὐτὴν πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ζωῆς σου καὶ ποίει τὸ ἀρεστὸν αὐτῇ καὶ μὴ λυπήσῃς αὐτήν
And having called him, he said, Child, if I die, bury me, and do not overlook your mother; honor her all the days of your life, and do what is pleasing to her, and do not grieve her.
παιδίον ὅτι πολλοὺς κινδύνους ἑόρακεν ἐπὶ σοὶ ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ ὅταν ἀποθάνῃ θάψον αὐτὴν παρ᾿ ἐμοὶ ἐν ἑνὶ τάφῳ
Remember, child, that many dangers she has seen on your account in the womb; when she dies, bury her beside me in one grave.
τὰς ἡμέρας παιδίον κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν μνημόνευε καὶ μὴ θελήσῃς ἁμαρτάνειν καὶ παραβῆναι τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ δικαιοσύνην ποίει πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ζωῆς σου καὶ μὴ πορευθῇς ταῖς ὁδοῖς τῆς ἀδικίας
All the days, child, remember the Lord our God, and do not wish to sin and to transgress his commandments; do righteousness all the days of your life, and do not go in the ways of unrighteousness.
for if you do the truth, there will be prosperity in your works
πᾶσι τοῖς ποιοῦσι τὴν δικαιοσύνην ἐκ τῶν ὑπαρχόντων σοι ποίει ἐλεημοσύνην καὶ μὴ φθονεσάτω σου ὁ ὀφθαλμὸς ἐν τῷ ποιεῖν σε ἐλεημοσύνην μὴ ἀποστρέψῃς τὸ πρόσωπόν σου ἀπὸ παντὸς πτωχοῦ καὶ ἀπὸ σοῦ οὐ μὴ ἀποστραφῇ τὸ πρόσωπον τοῦ θεοῦ
And to all who do righteousness, from what things are with you do alms, and let not your eye envy in your doing alms; do not turn away your face from any poor man, and the face of God shall not surely turn away from you.
σοὶ ὑπάρχει κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος ποίησον ἐξ αὐτῶν ἐλεημοσύνην ἐὰν ὀλίγον σοι ὑπάρχῃ κατὰ τὸ ὀλίγον μὴ φοβοῦ ποιεῖν ἐλεημοσύνην
As you have abundance, do alms from them; if you have little, according to the little do not fear to do alms.
For you are storing up a good deposit for yourself for the day of need.
For almsgiving delivers from death and does not allow to enter into the darkness
For almsgiving is a good gift to all who do it before the Most High
σεαυτῷ παιδίον ἀπὸ πάσης πορνείας καὶ γυναῖκα πρῶτον λαβὲ ἀπὸ τοῦ σπέρματος τῶν πατέρων σου μὴ λάβῃς γυναῖκα ἀλλοτρίαν ἣ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τῆς φυλῆς τοῦ πατρός σου διότι υἱοὶ προφητῶν ἐσμεν Νωε Αβρααμ Ισαακ Ιακωβ οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν ἀπὸ τοῦ αἰῶνος μνήσθητι παιδίον ὅτι οὗτοι πάντες ἔλαβον γυναῖκας ἐκ τῶν ἀδελφῶν αὐτῶν καὶ εὐλογήθησαν ἐν τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτῶν καὶ τὸ σπέρμα αὐτῶν κληρονομήσει γῆν
Take care, child, of yourself from every fornication, and first take a wife from the seed of your fathers; do not take a foreign wife, who is not from the tribe of your father. For we are sons of the prophets, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, our fathers from of old. Remember, child, that all these took wives from their brothers, and they were blessed in their children, and their seed will inherit the land.
νῦν παιδίον ἀγάπα τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου καὶ μὴ ὑπερηφανεύου τῇ καρδίᾳ σου ἀπὸ τῶν ἀδελφῶν σου καὶ τῶν υἱῶν καὶ θυγατέρων τοῦ λαοῦ σου λαβεῖν σεαυτῷ ἐξ αὐτῶν γυναῖκα διότι ἐν τῇ ὑπερηφανίᾳ ἀπώλεια καὶ ἀκαταστασία πολλή καὶ ἐν τῇ ἀχρειότητι ἐλάττωσις καὶ ἔνδεια μεγάλη ἡ γὰρ ἀχρειότης μήτηρ ἐστὶν τοῦ λιμοῦ
And now, child, love your brothers and do not be proud in your heart over your brothers and the sons and daughters of your people, to take for yourself a wife from them, because in pride is destruction and much instability, and in worthlessness is diminution and great want; for worthlessness is the mother of famine.
παντὸς ἀνθρώπου ὃς ἐὰν ἐργάσηται παρὰ σοὶ μὴ αὐλισθήτω ἀλλὰ ἀπόδος αὐτῷ παραυτίκα καὶ ἐὰν δουλεύσῃς τῷ θεῷ ἀποδοθήσεταί σοι πρόσεχε σεαυτῷ παιδίον ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ἔργοις σου καὶ ἴσθι πεπαιδευμένος ἐν πάσῃ ἀναστροφῇ σου
The wage of every man who works for you must not remain overnight, but pay it to him at once; and if you serve God, it will be repaid to you. Be careful, my child, in all your works, and be instructed in all your conduct.
And what you hate, do to no one. Wine for drunkenness do not drink, and let drunkenness not go with you on your way.
τοῦ ἄρτου σου δίδου πεινῶντι καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἱματίων σου τοῖς γυμνοῖς πᾶν ὃ ἐὰν περισσεύσῃ σοι ποίει ἐλεημοσύνην καὶ μὴ φθονεσάτω σου ὁ ὀφθαλμὸς ἐν τῷ ποιεῖν σε ἐλεημοσύνην
From your bread give to the one who is hungry, and from your garments to the naked; whatever may be left over to you, do almsgiving, and let not your eye begrudge you when you do almsgiving
Pour out your bread on the tomb of the righteous, and do not give it to sinners.
Seek counsel from every prudent man, and do not despise any useful counsel.
ἐν παντὶ καιρῷ εὐλόγει κύριον τὸν θεὸν καὶ παρ᾿ αὐτοῦ αἴτησον ὅπως αἱ ὁδοί σου εὐθεῖαι γένωνται καὶ πᾶσαι αἱ τρίβοι καὶ βουλαὶ εὐοδωθῶσιν διότι πᾶν ἔθνος οὐκ ἔχει βουλήν ἀλλὰ αὐτὸς ὁ κύριος δίδωσιν πάντα τὰ ἀγαθὰ καὶ ὃν ἐὰν θέλῃ ταπεινοῖ καθὼς βούλεται καὶ νῦν παιδίον μνημόνευε τῶν ἐντολῶν μου καὶ μὴ ἐξαλειφθήτωσαν ἐκ τῆς καρδίας σου
And at every time bless the Lord God, and from him ask that your ways may become straight and all your paths and counsels may prosper, because every nation does not have counsel, but the Lord himself gives all good things, and whomever he wishes he humbles, as he wills. And now, child, remember my commandments, and let them not be blotted out from your heart.
νῦν ὑποδεικνύω σοι τὰ δέκα τάλαντα τοῦ ἀργυρίου ἃ παρεθέμην Γαβαήλῳ τῷ τοῦ Γαβρια ἐν Ῥάγοις τῆς Μηδίας
And now I point out to you the ten talents of silver which I deposited with Gabael, son of Gabrias, at Rages of Media
μὴ φοβοῦ παιδίον ὅτι ἐπτωχεύσαμεν ὑπάρχει σοι πολλά ἐὰν φοβηθῇς τὸν θεὸν καὶ ἀποστῇς ἀπὸ πάσης ἁμαρτίας καὶ ποιήσῃς τὸ ἀρεστὸν ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ
And do not fear, child, because we have become poor; there is much for you if you fear God and turn away from every sin and do what is pleasing before him.
