Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, the fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of the Messiah, and also a partaker of the glory about to be revealed,

Shepherd the flock of God among you, overseeing not under compulsion but willingly according to God, not for dishonest gain but eagerly,

not as domineering over those entrusted to you, but becoming examples to the flock;

And when the chief shepherd is revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

Likewise, younger men, be subject to the elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time,

Casting all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.

Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being accomplished among your brotherhood in the world.

But the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in the Messiah, after you have suffered a little, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.

Through Silvanus, a faithful brother to you, as I think, I have written briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God, in which you stand.
