καὶ ἐπέμψαμεν Τιμόθεον, τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν καὶ συνεργὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ τοῦ Χριστοῦ, εἰς τὸ στηρίξαι ὑμᾶς καὶ παρακαλέσαι ὑπὲρ τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν
And we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s coworker in the gospel of the Messiah, to strengthen you and encourage you concerning your faith.
That no one should be shaken in these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.
For indeed, when we were with you, we were telling you beforehand that we were going to be afflicted, just as also happened and you know.
διὰ τοῦτο κἀγὼ μηκέτι στέγων ἔπεμψα εἰς τὸ γνῶναι τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν, μή πως ἐπείρασεν ὑμᾶς ὁ πειράζων καὶ εἰς κενὸν γένηται ὁ κόπος ἡμῶν.
For this reason I no longer endured, and I sent to learn about your faith, so that the one testing you might not have tested you in vain and our labor become empty.
Ἄρτι δὲ ἐλθόντος Τιμοθέου πρὸς ἡμᾶς ἀφ' ὑμῶν καὶ εὐαγγελισαμένου ἡμῖν τὴν πίστιν καὶ τὴν ἀγάπην ὑμῶν, καὶ ὅτι ἔχετε μνείαν ἡμῶν ἀγαθὴν πάντοτε ἐπιποθοῦντες ἡμᾶς ἰδεῖν καθάπερ καὶ ἡμεῖς ὑμᾶς,
But now that Timothy has come to us from you and has announced to us your faith and your love, and that you always have a good remembrance of us, longing to see us just as we also long to see you,
Therefore we were comforted, brothers, concerning you in all our distress and affliction through your faith,
For now we live if you stand firm in the Lord.
τίνα γὰρ εὐχαριστίαν δυνάμεθα τῷ θεῷ ἀνταποδοῦναι περὶ ὑμῶν ἐπὶ πάσῃ τῇ χαρᾷ ᾗ χαίρομεν δι' ὑμᾶς ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν,
For what thanksgiving can we repay to God concerning you, for all the joy with which we rejoice before our God on your behalf,
νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας ὑπερεκπερισσοῦ δεόμενοι εἰς τὸ ἰδεῖν ὑμῶν τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ καταρτίσαι τὰ ὑστερήματα τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν;
Night and day we pray exceedingly to see your face and to complete what is lacking in your faith.
Now may God our Father himself and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you.
ὑμᾶς δὲ ὁ κύριος πλεονάσαι καὶ περισσεύσαι τῇ ἀγάπῃ εἰς ἀλλήλους καὶ εἰς πάντας, καθάπερ καὶ ἡμεῖς εἰς ὑμᾶς,
Now may the Lord increase and overflow your love for one another and for all, just as we also do for you,
εἰς τὸ στηρίξαι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας ἀμέμπτους ἐν ἁγιωσύνῃ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων αὐτοῦ.
to establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his holy ones.
