being faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in his house.
πλείονος γὰρ οὗτος δόξης παρὰ Μωϋσῆν ἠξίωται καθ' ὅσον πλείονα τιμὴν ἔχει τοῦ οἴκου ὁ κατασκευάσας αὐτόν·
For this one is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, as the builder of the house has more honor than the house itself.
For every house is built by someone, but the one who built all things is God.
And Moses was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of the things to be spoken,
Χριστὸς δὲ ὡς υἱὸς ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ· ὅς οἶκός ἐσμεν ἡμεῖς, ἐὰν τὴν παρρησίαν καὶ τὸ καύχημα τῆς ἐλπίδος κατάσχωμεν.
But Christ as a son over his house; and we are the house, if we hold fast the confidence and the boasting of the hope.
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, Today, if you hear his voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,
where your fathers tested me in a trial and saw my works
τεσσεράκοντα ἔτη· διὸ προσώχθισα τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ καὶ εἶπον· Ἀεὶ πλανῶνται τῇ καρδίᾳ· αὐτοὶ δὲ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν τὰς ὁδούς μου·
Forty years; therefore I was angry with that generation and said, They always wander in the heart; but they did not know my ways.
As I swore in my anger, If they enter into my rest.
Take care, brothers, that there may not be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God,
ἀλλὰ παρακαλεῖτε ἑαυτοὺς καθ' ἑκάστην ἡμέραν, ἄχρις οὗ τὸ Σήμερον καλεῖται, ἵνα μὴ σκληρυνθῇ τις ἐξ ὑμῶν ἀπάτῃ τῆς ἁμαρτίας·
But encourage one another every day, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may become hardened by the deceit of sin.
For we have become partners of the Messiah, if indeed we hold firmly the beginning of the assurance until the end.
ἐν τῷ λέγεσθαι· Σήμερον ἐὰν τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ ἀκούσητε, Μὴ σκληρύνητε τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν ὡς ἐν τῷ παραπικρασμῷ.
As it is said, Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
For who, having heard, provoked? But not all those who came out of Egypt through Moses.
To whom did he become angry for forty years? Was it not to those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest except to those who were disobedient?
And we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.
