Being tempted for forty days by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, he became hungry.
The devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.
And Jesus answered him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone.
And leading him up, he showed him all the kingdoms of the inhabited world in an instant of time.
And the devil said to him, I will give you all this authority and their glory, because it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I want.
Therefore, if you worship me, all will be yours.
And Jesus answered him, It is written, You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.
He led him to Jerusalem and stood him on the wing of the temple, and said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here.
For it is written, He will command his angels concerning you to guard you,
and that they will lift you up on their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
And Jesus answered him, It is written, You shall not test the Lord your God.
And when the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee. And a report went out throughout all the surrounding region about him.
And he was teaching in their synagogues, being praised by all.
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue, and stood up to read.
And a scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him, and unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor; he sent me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
And having rolled up the scroll, he gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And all the eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him.
And he began to say to them, Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.
καὶ πάντες ἐμαρτύρουν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐθαύμαζον ἐπὶ τοῖς λόγοις τῆς χάριτος τοῖς ἐκπορευομένοις ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔλεγον· Οὐχὶ υἱός ἐστιν Ἰωσὴφ οὗτος;
And all were testifying about him and marveling at the gracious words coming from his mouth, and they were saying, Is this not Joseph’s son?
And he said to them, Certainly you will tell me this parable: Physician, heal yourself; as many things as we heard happened in Capernaum, do also here in your own country.
But he said, Truly I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country.
But truly I say to you, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut for three years and six months, as a great famine came over all the land,
And Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow woman in Zarephath of Sidon.
And many lepers were in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.
And all were filled with anger in the synagogue as they heard these things,
And standing up, they drove him out of the city and led him to the brow of the hill on which the city was built, in order to throw him down.
But he, passing through the midst of them, went on his way.
And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the Sabbaths.
And they were amazed at his teaching, because his word was with authority.
And in the synagogue there was a man having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice.
Leave us alone, what do we have to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.
And Jesus rebuked it, saying, Be silent and come out of him. And throwing the demon into the middle, it came out of him without harming him at all.
καὶ ἐγένετο θάμβος ἐπὶ πάντας, καὶ συνελάλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες· Τίς ὁ λόγος οὗτος ὅτι ἐν ἐξουσίᾳ καὶ δυνάμει ἐπιτάσσει τοῖς ἀκαθάρτοις πνεύμασιν, καὶ ἐξέρχονται;
And amazement came upon all, and they were speaking to one another, saying, What kind of word is this, that with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out?
And a report about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.
And rising up from the synagogue, he entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him about her.
And standing over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her; and immediately she rose and served them.
As the sun was setting, all who had various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on each one and healed them.
And demons were coming out from many, crying out and saying, You are the Son of God. And rebuking them, he did not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
When day came, he went out to a deserted place, and the crowds were seeking him, and they came to him and kept him from going away from them.
But he said to them, It is necessary for me to proclaim the kingdom of God also to the other cities, because for this I was sent.
And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
