Now it happened that while the crowd was pressing in on him and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret,

And he saw two boats standing by the lake, and the fishermen from them, having gotten out, were washing the nets.

Getting into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, he asked him to put out a little from the land. Then, sitting down in the boat, he taught the crowds.

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.

And Simon answered, Master, we have worked hard all night and caught nothing, but at your word I will let down the nets.

And when they had done this, they enclosed a great multitude of fish, and their nets were breaking.

And they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats so that they began to sink.

But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, because I am a sinful man, Lord.

For amazement seized him and all those with him at the catch of fish they had taken,

Likewise James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; from now on you will catch people.

And having brought the boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

And it happened while he was in one of the cities, and behold, a man full of leprosy; and seeing Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, saying, Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.

And stretching out his hand, he touched him, saying, I am willing; be cleansed. And immediately the leprosy left him.

And he ordered him not to tell anyone, but to go and show himself to the priest, and to offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.

But the word about him continued to spread, and large crowds were gathering to hear and to be healed from their diseases.

But he was withdrawing into the wilderness and praying.

And it happened on one of the days that he was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was present to heal him.

And behold, men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and place him before him.

And not finding a way to bring him in because of the crowd, having climbed up on the roof, they lowered him with the bed into the middle, in front of Jesus.

And seeing their faith, he said, Man, your sins are forgiven you.

And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins except God alone?

But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, answered and said to them, Why do you reason in your hearts?

Which is easier to say, Your sins are forgiven you, or Rise up and walk?

But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins—he said to the paralyzed man, I say to you, get up, take your mat, and go to your house.

And immediately standing before them, he lifted up what he was lying on and went away to his house, glorifying God.

And amazement took hold of all, and they glorified God, and they were filled with fear, saying, We have seen extraordinary things today.

And after these things he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, Follow me.

And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.

And Levi made a large banquet for him in his house, and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others who were reclining with them.

And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?

And Jesus answered them, You do not need a doctor, but those who are sick.

I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.

But they said to him, The disciples of John fast often and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.

But he said to them, You cannot make the sons of the wedding feast fast while the bridegroom is with them.

But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast on those days.

And he also spoke a parable to them, saying, No one tears a patch from a new garment and puts it on an old garment; otherwise, he will tear the new garment, and the patch from the new will not agree with the old.

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the new wine will burst the wineskins, and it will be spilled, and the wineskins will be destroyed.

But new wine must be put into new wineskins.

And no one, having drunk old wine, desires new; for he says, The old is good.
