After he had completed all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.

A certain centurion had a servant who was ill and about to die, who was valuable to him.

When he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and save his servant.

And those who came to Jesus pleaded with him earnestly, saying, He is worthy for you to do this,

For he loves our nation, and he himself built our synagogue.

But Jesus was going with them. And when he was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof.

Therefore I did not consider myself worthy to come to you; but say the word, and my servant will be healed.

For I am a man set under authority, having soldiers under me, and I say to this one, Go, and he goes, and to another, Come, and he comes, and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.

When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.

And returning to the house, those who had been sent found the servant healthy.

And it happened afterward that he went into a city called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd were going along with him.

As he approached the gate of the city, behold, a dead only son was being carried out to his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the city was with her.

And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep.

And having come near, he touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still, and he said, Young man, I say to you, arise.

And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and he gave him to his mother.

Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet has risen among us, and God has visited his people.

And this report went out about him throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.

And the disciples of John reported to him about all these things. And John called two of his disciples

He sent to the Lord, saying, Are you the one who is coming, or should we expect another?

Now when the men came to him, they said, John the Baptist sent us to you, saying, Are you the one who is coming, or should we expect another?

At that hour he healed many from diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and he gave sight to many who were blind.

And answering, he said to them, Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news preached to them.

And blessed is the one who does not stumble because of me.

When the messengers of John had gone away, he began to speak to the crowds about John: What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who wear glorious and luxurious clothing are in kings' houses.

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

This is the one about whom it is written: Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.

I tell you, no one born of women is greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than him.

And all the people, having heard, and the tax collectors, justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John;

But the Pharisees and the experts in the law rejected the plan of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

To what shall I compare the people of this generation, and to what are they like?

They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying, We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we mourned, and you did not weep.

For John the Baptist has come, not eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a demon.

The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.

And wisdom was justified by all her children.

And one of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined.

And behold, a woman who was a sinner in the city, and having learned that he was reclining in the house of the Pharisee, brought an alabaster jar of perfume.

And standing behind at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.

But when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, This one, if he were a prophet, would know what kind of woman is touching him, that she is a sinner.

And Jesus answered him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he said, Teacher, say it.

Two debtors were to a certain moneylender; one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

Since they did not have to repay both, he forgave them both. Which of them, then, will love him more?

Simon answered, I suppose the one to whom he forgave more. And he said to him, You have judged rightly.

And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, Do you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

You did not give me a kiss, but she, since the time I entered, has not ceased kissing my feet.

You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with perfume.

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven because she loved much; but the one who is forgiven little loves little.

And he said to her, Your sins are forgiven.

And those reclining with him began to say to themselves, Who is this, who even forgives sins?

And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.
