And it happened afterward that he was traveling through city and village, preaching and proclaiming the kingdom of God, and the twelve were with him,

And certain women who had been healed from evil spirits and illnesses, Mary called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,

And Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who were serving them out of their own means.

While a large crowd was gathering and people from the towns were coming to him, he told this parable:

The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled, and the birds of the sky ate it.

And another fell on the rock, and when it grew, it withered because it had no moisture.

And another fell among thorns, and as the thorns grew up, they choked it.

And another fell on the good soil, and growing produced fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he called out: Let the one who has ears to hear, hear.

And his disciples asked him what this parable might be.

But he said, To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

Now this is the parable: The seed is the word of God.

Those beside the road are the ones who have heard, then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they may not believe and be saved.

But those on the rock, when they hear, receive the word with joy, and these have no root; they believe for a time, and in time of testing they fall away.

But the ones that fell among the thorns are those who heard, and as they go on their way, they are choked by worries and wealth and pleasures of life, and they do not bear fruit to completion.

But the one on the good soil, these are the ones who, having heard the word with a good and noble heart, hold it fast and bear fruit with patience.

No one, after lighting a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand so that those entering may see the light.

For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

Therefore, pay attention to how you listen. For whoever has, to him will be given, and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.

And his mother and his brothers came to him, but they were not able to join him because of the crowd.

But it was reported to him, Your mother and your brothers are standing outside wanting to see you.

But he answered them, My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.

One day he got into a boat along with his disciples and said to them, Let us cross to the other side of the lake, and they set sail.

While they were sailing, he fell asleep. And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger.

But they came to him and woke him, saying, Teacher, Teacher, we are perishing. And having been awakened, he rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and there was calm.

And he said to them, Where is your faith? And being afraid, they marveled, saying to one another, Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?

And they sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.

When he went out to the land, a certain man from the city met him who had demons; and for a long time he did not wear clothing, and he did not live in a house but among the tombs.

When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of the God Most High? I beg you, do not torment me.

For he commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For many times it had seized him, and he was bound with chains and shackles guarded, and breaking the bonds he was driven by the demon into the wilderness.

Jesus asked him, What is your name? He said, Legion, because many demons had entered him.

And they were begging him not to command them to go into the abyss.

There was there a large herd of pigs feeding on the mountain, and they begged him to allow them to enter into them, and he allowed them.

And when the demons came out of the man, they entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.

When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and reported it in the city and in the countryside.

They went out to see what had happened and came to Jesus, and they found the man from whom the demons had gone sitting clothed and in his right mind by the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid.

Those who saw how the one possessed by demons was saved reported it to them.

And the whole crowd of the surrounding region of the Gerasenes asked him to leave them, because they were seized with great fear; but he, having gotten into a boat, returned.

The man from whom the demons had gone begged him to let him be with him. But he sent him away, saying,

Return to your house and tell what God has done for you. And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what Jesus had done for him.

As Jesus was returning, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him.

And behold, a man whose name was Jairus came, and he was a ruler of the synagogue, and falling at the feet of Jesus, he begged him to enter into his house,

For he had a daughter, his only child, about twelve years old, and she was dying. And as he was going, the crowds were pressing against him.

And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her living on doctors and had not been able to be healed by anyone,

Having come up behind, she touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her flow of blood stopped.

And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied it, Peter said, Master, the crowds are pressing and crushing you.

But Jesus said, Someone touched me, for I knew power had gone out from me.

But the woman, seeing that she was not hidden, trembling, came and fell before him and declared in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

But he said to her, Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace.

While he was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue leader saying, Your daughter has died; do not trouble the teacher any longer.

But Jesus, having heard, answered him: Do not be afraid, only believe, and you will be saved.

And when he came into the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him except Peter and John and James and the father of the child and the mother.

And all were weeping and beating themselves. But he said, Do not weep, for she has not died but is sleeping.

And they laughed at him, knowing that he had died.

But he, holding her hand, called out, saying, Child, arise.

And her spirit returned, and she immediately stood up, and he ordered that she be given something to eat.

And her parents were amazed, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.
