While thousands of the crowd had gathered so that they trampled one another, he began to say first to his disciples: Be on guard against the yeast, which is hypocrisy, of the Pharisees.

There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.

What you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the rooftops.

But I say to you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body and after that have nothing more to do.

But I will show you whom to fear: fear the one who, after killing, has authority to throw into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, fear this one.

Are not five sparrows sold for two assaria? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.

But even the hairs of your head are all numbered; do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

But I say to you, everyone who confesses in me before people, the Son of Man will also confess in him before the angels of God.

But whoever denies me before people will be denied before the angels of God.

And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

But when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you will defend yourselves or what you will say.

For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that hour what you must say.

And someone from the crowd said to him, Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.

But he said to him, Man, who appointed me judge or divider over you?

And he said to them, Watch out and guard yourselves against all greed, because life is not in the abundance of possessions that one has.

And he told them a parable, saying: The land of a certain rich man produced abundantly.

And he was reasoning within himself, saying, What shall I do, since I have nowhere to gather my fruits?

And he said, I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and I will gather there all my grain and my goods,

And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; rest, eat, drink, be merry.

But God said to him, Fool, this night your soul is demanded from you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?

So is the one who stores up for himself and is not rich toward God.

And he said to his disciples, Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life what you will eat, nor about your body what you will wear.

For the soul is more than food, and the body more than clothing.

Consider the ravens, that they neither sow nor reap, which have no storeroom nor barn, and God feeds them; how much more valuable are you than the birds.

Who of you by worrying is able to add a cubit to his height?

If then you are not able to do even a little, why do you worry about the rest?

Consider the lilies, how they grow; they do not labor or spin. But I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these.

If God clothes the grass in the field, which is here today and thrown into the oven tomorrow, how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith.

And do not seek what you will eat or what you will drink, and do not be anxious,

For all these things the nations of the world seek, but your Father knows that you need these.

But seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

Do not be afraid, little flock, because your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

Sell what you own and give alms; make for yourselves purses that do not wear out, a treasure unfailing in the heavens, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning,

And you, like people waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that when he comes and knocks, they immediately open to him.

Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching; truly I say to you, he will gird himself and have them recline, and going on he will serve them.

And if he comes at the second or at the third watch and finds them so, they are blessed.

But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

And you also be ready, because at the hour you do not expect, the Son of Man comes.

And Peter said, Lord, are you speaking this parable to us or to everyone?

And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom the Lord will appoint over his household to give the food at the proper time?

Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find doing so.

Truly I say to you that he will set him over all that he has.

But if that servant says in his heart, My master is delaying to come, and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,

The master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know, and he will cut him in two and assign his portion with the unbelievers.

But the servant who knows the will of his master and does not prepare or do according to his will will be beaten with many blows.

But the one who did not know, and did things worthy of punishment, will be beaten with few blows. To everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded from him, and to the one entrusted with much, even more will be asked.

I have come to cast fire upon the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled.

But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how I am constrained until it is completed.

Do you think that I have come to give peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.

For from now on there will be five in one house divided, three against two and two against three,

They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

And he also said to the crowds, When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say that rain is coming, and it happens so;

And when the south wind blows, you say that there will be heat, and it happens.

Hypocrites, you know how to examine the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you do not know how to examine this time?

Why do you not also judge for yourselves what is right?

For as you go with your opponent before the ruler, give effort on the way to be released from him, so that he may not drag you before the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.

I tell you, you will not leave there until you have paid the last penny.
