But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when the one who invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, move up higher. Then you will have glory in the presence of all those reclining with you.

And he also said to the one who had invited him, When you make a lunch or a dinner, do not call your friends nor your brothers nor your relatives nor rich neighbors, so that they may not also invite you back and there be a repayment to you.

And the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master, being angry, said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.

If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

Or what king, going out to meet another king in war, will not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
