And many gathered so that there was no longer room, not even near the door, and he was speaking the word to them.
And they come bringing to him a paralytic being carried by four.
And not being able to bring him to him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was, and digging through, they lowered the bed on which the paralytic was lying.
And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, Child, your sins are forgiven.
Now there were some of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts.
Why does this one speak like that? He is blaspheming. Who can forgive sins except God alone?
καὶ εὐθὺς ἐπιγνοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς τῷ πνεύματι αὐτοῦ ὅτι οὕτως διαλογίζονται ἐν ἑαυτοῖς λέγει αὐτοῖς· Τί ταῦτα διαλογίζεσθε ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν;
And immediately Jesus, knowing in his spirit that they were reasoning this way within themselves, said to them, Why are you reasoning these things in your hearts?
τί ἐστιν εὐκοπώτερον, εἰπεῖν τῷ παραλυτικῷ· Ἀφίενταί σου αἱ ἁμαρτίαι, ἢ εἰπεῖν· Ἔγειρε καὶ ἆρον τὸν κράβαττόν σου καὶ περιπάτει;
Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, Get up, take your mat, and walk?
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins—he says to the paralytic—
I say to you, rise, take up your bed, and go to your house.
And he got up and immediately, taking up the bed, went out in front of everyone, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, We have never seen anything like this.
And he went out again beside the sea; and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them.

Καὶ ἦσαν οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι νηστεύοντες. καὶ ἔρχονται καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Διὰ τί οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ τῶν Φαρισαίων νηστεύουσιν, οἱ δὲ σοὶ μαθηταὶ οὐ νηστεύουσιν;
And the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting. And they come and say to him, Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?

And Jesus said to them, The sons of the wedding feast, while the bridegroom is with them, cannot fast; as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.
