Now the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were two days away. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him,

For they were saying, Do not during the festival, so that there may not be an uproar of the people.

And while he was in Bethany, at the house of Simon the leper reclining, a woman came having an alabaster jar of very expensive pure nard; and breaking the alabaster jar, she poured it on his head.

Now some were indignant among themselves, Why has this waste of the perfume happened?

For this perfume could have been sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor; and they were indignant with her.

But Jesus said, Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for me.

For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them, but you do not always have me.

What she had, she did; she anticipated anointing my body for burial.

Truly I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed throughout the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in remembrance of her.

And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them.

But those who heard it rejoiced and promised to give him money. And he was seeking how to hand him over at an opportune time.

And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they were sacrificing the Passover, his disciples said to him, Where do you want us to go and prepare so that you may eat the Passover?

And he sends two of his disciples and says to them, Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him,

And wherever you enter, say to the master of the house, The Teacher says, Where is my lodging where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?

And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.

And the disciples went out and came into the city, and they found as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

And when evening came, he came with the twelve.

And while they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, Truly I say to you, one of you who is eating with me will betray me.

They began to be distressed and to say to him one by one, Am I not?

But he said to them, One of the twelve, the one who dips with me into the bowl,

For the Son of Man goes as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed; it would be better for that man if he had not been born.

And while they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it, he broke it and gave it to them, and said, Take, this is my body.

And having taken a cup, giving thanks, he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it.

And he said to them, This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.

Truly I say to you, I will no longer drink from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

And after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

And Jesus says to them, All of you will be caused to stumble, because it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.

But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.

But Peter said to him, Even if all fall away, I will not.

And Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you that you will deny me three times tonight before the rooster crows twice.

But he spoke excessively: If it is necessary for me to die with you, I will never deny you. And in the same way, all were saying.

And they came to a place whose name is Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit here until I pray.

And he took Peter and James and John with him, and he began to be greatly distressed and troubled,

And he says to them, My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch.

And going forward a little, he fell to the ground and prayed that if it is possible, the hour might pass from him,

And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible for you; remove this cup from me; yet not what I want, but what you want.

And he comes and finds them sleeping, and he says to Peter, Simon, are you sleeping? Were you not able to watch for one hour?

Be watchful and pray so that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

And again, having gone away, he prayed the same word.

And again coming, he found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they did not know what to answer him.

And he came the third time and said to them, You are still sleeping and resting. It is enough; the hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is being handed over into the hands of sinners.

Get up, let us go; behold, the one who is betraying me has come.

And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

Now the one who was betraying him had given them a sign, saying, The one I kiss is the man; seize him and lead him away safely.

And immediately coming, he approached him and said, Rabbi, and he kissed him.

Then they laid hands on him and seized him.

But one of those standing nearby, drawing his sword, struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.

And Jesus answered them, You have come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to seize me?

Every day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me, but so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled.

And leaving him, they all fled.

And a certain young man was following him, wearing only a linen cloth over his naked body, and they seized him,

But the one who had left the linen cloth behind fled naked.

And they led Jesus to the high priest, and all the high priests and the elders and the scribes gathered together.

And Peter followed him at a distance, as far as inside the courtyard of the high priest, and was sitting with the servants and warming himself by the fire.

But the chief priests and the whole council were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, and they did not find any.

For many were bearing false witness against him, and the testimonies were not consistent.

And some standing up bore false witness against him, saying

Because we heard him say, I will destroy this man-made temple, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.

And even so their testimony was not consistent.

And the high priest stood up in the middle and questioned Jesus, saying, Are you not going to answer anything? What is it that these are testifying against you?

But he remained silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest questioned him and said to him, Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?

But Jesus said, I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of power and coming with the clouds of heaven.

But the high priest tore his robes and said, What further need do we have of witnesses?

You have heard the blasphemy; what do you think? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, Prophesy; and the servants received him with blows.

And while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest’s servant girls came,

And seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.

But he denied, saying, I neither know nor understand what you are saying. And he went out into the courtyard, and the rooster crowed.

And the servant girl, seeing him, began again to say to those standing by, This one is one of them.

But he denied it again. And after a little while, those standing by said again to Peter, You truly are one of them, for you are a Galilean, and your speech resembles.

But he began to curse and to swear that I do not know this man you are talking about.

And immediately a rooster crowed a second time; and Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said to him, that before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times; and he began to weep.
