Be careful not to practice your righteousness before people to be seen by them; otherwise, you have no reward from your Father who is in the heavens.

So when you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by people. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward.

But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

so that your almsgiving may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

And when you pray, you will not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets, so that they may be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward.

But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

And when you pray, do not babble like the Gentiles, for they think that because of their many words they will be heard.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

So then pray like this: Our Father who is in the heavens, let your name be sanctified,

Let your kingdom come, let your will be done, as in heaven also on earth.

Give us today our necessary bread.

and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors;

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

For if you forgive people their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

But if you do not forgive people, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

When you fast, do not become like the hypocrites, gloomy, for they disfigure their faces so that they may appear to people to be fasting. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward.

But you, when fasting, anoint your head and wash your face,

so that you do not appear to people to be fasting, but to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, if your eye is simple, your whole body will be full of light.

But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be dark. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness.

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will wear. Is not the life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Look at the birds of the sky, that they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and your Father in heaven feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they?

Who among you, by worrying, is able to add one cubit to his lifespan?

And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field how they grow; they do not labor nor do they spin.

But I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these.

If God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith?

Therefore do not worry, saying, What will we eat? or What will we drink? or What will we wear?

For all these things the Gentiles seek; for your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things.

But seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself; each day has enough trouble of its own.
