And calling his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal every disease and every sickness.

Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first Simon, called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,

Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector, James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus,

Simon the Cananean and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

Jesus sent out these twelve, commanding them, saying, Do not go on the road to the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans.

But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

As you go, proclaim, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has come near.

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons; freely you have received, freely give.

Do not acquire gold or silver or copper for your belts,

Do not take a bag for the journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the worker is worthy of his food.

Into whatever city or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and stay there until you leave.

But when you enter the house, greet it.

And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

And whoever does not receive you nor listen to your words, when you leave that house or that city, shake off the dust from your feet.

Truly I say to you, it will be more bearable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city.

Behold, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves; therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

But be on guard against people, for they will deliver you to councils, and in their synagogues they will flog you.

And you will be brought before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them and to the nations.

But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you will speak, for it will be given to you at that hour what you should speak.

For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking in you.

Brother will deliver brother to death, and father will deliver child, and children will rise up against parents and will kill them.

And you will be hated by all because of my name; but the one who endures to the end, this one will be saved.

But when they persecute you in this city, flee to another; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.

A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.

It is enough for the disciple to become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they called the householder Beelzebul, how much more will they call his household members.

So do not be afraid of them; for nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing secret that will not be known.

What I say to you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the roofs.

And do not fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father.

But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Therefore, everyone who confesses in me before people, I will also confess in him before my Father who is in heaven.

But whoever denies me before people, I also will deny him before my Father who is in heaven.

Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace but a sword.

For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,

And a man's enemies will be those of his own household.

The one who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and the one who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

And whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

The one who finds his soul will lose it, and the one who loses his soul because of me will find it.

The one who receives you receives me, and the one who receives me receives the one who sent me.

Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous person because he is righteous will receive a righteous person’s reward.

And whoever gives one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
