The Koine Bible

For the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.

And having agreed with the workers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard.

And going out around the third hour, he saw others standing in the marketplace idle.

And to those he said, Go also into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give to you.

But they went away. Again going out about the sixth and the ninth hour, he did the same.

About the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing, and said to them, Why have you stood here idle all day?

They say to him, Because no one has hired us. He says to them, Go also into the vineyard.

When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones and ending with the first.

And those who came about the eleventh hour received each one a denarius.

And when the first came, they thought they would receive more; and they also received one denarius each.

But when they received it, they grumbled against the householder.

saying, These last worked one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the heat.

But he answered one of them, Friend, I am not wronging you. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?

Take what is yours and go; but I want to give this last one as much as to you.

Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or is your eye evil because I am good?

So the last will be first, and the first will be last.

And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside privately, and on the way he said to them,

Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death,

and they will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock and flog and crucify, and on the third day he will be raised.

Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, bowing down and asking something from him.

He said to her, What do you want? She said to him, Say that these two sons of mine will sit, one at your right and one at your left, in your kingdom.

But Jesus answered, You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am about to drink? They said to him, We can.

He says to them, You will indeed drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to give, but to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.

And when the ten heard it, they became indignant about the two brothers.

But Jesus, having called them, said, You know that the rulers of the nations lord it over them, and the great exercise authority over them.

It will not be so among you; but whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,

And whoever wants to be first among you must be your servant.

Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his soul as a ransom for many.

And as they were going out from Jericho, a large crowd followed him.

And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David.

But the crowd rebuked them so that they would be silent; and they shouted even more, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David.

And Jesus stopped and called them and said, What do you want me to do for you?

They say to him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

But Jesus, moved with compassion, touched their eyes, and immediately they received sight and followed him.
