Then the kingdom of the heavens will be likened to ten virgins, who having taken their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom.

And five of them were foolish and five were wise.

For the foolish took their lamps but did not take oil with them.

But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

While the bridegroom was delaying, all of them became drowsy and slept.

But at midnight a shout was made: Behold, the bridegroom, come out to meet him.

Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.

But the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.

But the wise answered, saying, Perhaps it will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to those who sell and buy for yourselves.

While they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready entered with him into the wedding, and the door was shut.

Later the other virgins also came, saying, Lord, Lord, open for us.

But he answered and said, Truly I say to you, I do not know you.

Therefore, stay awake, because you do not know the day nor the hour.

For just as a man going on a journey called his own slaves and entrusted to them his possessions,

And to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his own ability, and he went away. Immediately

Going away, the one who had received the five talents worked with them and gained another five.

In the same way, the one who had two gained two more.

But the one who had received the one went away, dug into the ground, and hid the silver of his lord.

After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them.

And the one who had received the five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, Lord, you delivered five talents to me; see, I have gained another five talents.

His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.

And the one who had the two talents also came and said, Lord, you gave me two talents; see, I have gained two more talents.

His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.

But the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you did not scatter.

And fearing, I went away and hid your talent in the ground; see, you have what is yours.

But his master answered him, You wicked and lazy servant, did you know that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I did not scatter?

Therefore, you ought to have put my money with the bankers, and when I came, I would have received my own with interest.

Therefore, take the talent away from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents.

For to the one who has, more will be given and will overflow; but from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.

And all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them from one another, just as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,

And he will place the sheep on his right and the goats on the left.

Then the king will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

For I was hungry and you gave me food to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

Naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.

Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?

When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?

When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?

And the king will answer them, Truly I say to you, as much as you did to one of the least of these my brothers, you did to me.

Then he will say to those on the left, Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you did not give me food to eat, I was thirsty and you did not give me drink,

I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.

Then they will also answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not serve you?

Then he will answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, as much as you did not do it to one of these least ones, you did not do it to me either.

And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
