And it came to pass when Jesus had finished all these words, he said to his disciples,

You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest called Caiaphas,

And they conspired to seize Jesus by treachery and kill him.

But they said, Not during the festival, so that no uproar may occur among the people.

Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

A woman came to him holding an alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it on his head while he was reclining.

But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant and said, Why this waste?

For this could have been sold for much and given to the poor.

But Jesus, knowing, said to them, Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for me.

For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.

For she poured this perfume on my body to prepare me for burial.

Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed throughout the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.

Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests

He said, What will you give me to deliver him to you? They set thirty silver coins for him.

And from then on he sought an opportunity to betray him.

Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?

He said, Go into the city to the one and say to him, The Teacher says, My time is near; I am keeping the Passover with my disciples at your place.

And the disciples did as Jesus directed them, and they prepared the Passover.

When evening came, he reclined with the twelve disciples.

And while they were eating, he said, Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me.

And they began to be very sorrowful and each one began to say to him, Is it I, Lord?

He who has dipped his hand with me in the dish, this one will betray me.

The Son of Man goes as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed; it would have been good for that man if he had not been born.

Then Judas, the one betraying him, answered, Are I the one, Rabbi? He said to him, You said so.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it, he broke it and gave it to the disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is my body.

And taking a cup and giving thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you,

For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

But I say to you, I will not drink from now on of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.

And after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Then Jesus said to them, All of you will stumble because of me this night, for it is written, I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.

But Peter answered him, If all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.

Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.

Peter said to him, Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you. Likewise, all the disciples said the same.

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to the disciples, Sit here while I go over there to pray.

And taking Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and distressed.

Then he says to them, My soul is sorrowful to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with me.

And going forward a little, he fell on his face, praying and saying, Father mine, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not as I want, but as you.

And he comes to the disciples and finds them sleeping, and he says to Peter, You were not able to watch one hour with me?

Stay awake and pray so that you do not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Again, a second time, having gone away, he prayed, saying, My Father, if it is not possible for this to pass away unless I drink it, let your will be done.

And coming again, he found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.

And leaving them again, he went away and prayed a third time, saying the same words again.

Then he comes to the disciples and says to them, You will now sleep and rest; behold, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is being handed over into the hands of sinners.

Get up, let us go; behold, the one who is betraying me has come.

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a large crowd with swords and clubs from the chief priests and elders of the people.

Now the one betraying him gave them a sign, saying, The one I will kiss is the one; seize him.

And immediately he came to Jesus and said, Greetings, Rabbi, and he kissed him.

Jesus said to him, Friend, do what you have come for. Then they came forward, laid hands on Jesus, and seized him.

And behold, one of those with Jesus stretched out his hand, drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

Then Jesus said to him, Put your sword back in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.

Or do you think that I cannot ask my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must happen in this way?

At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, As against a robber you came out with swords and clubs to seize me? Every day I sat teaching in the temple, and you did not seize me.

All this happened so that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples, leaving him, fled.

Those who had arrested Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered.

But Peter followed him from a distance as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going in, he sat with the servants to see the outcome.

But the chief priests and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death,

And they did not find many when false witnesses came forward. But later, two came forward

They said, This one said, I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it up in three days.

And the high priest stood up and said to him, Are you not going to answer? What is it that these men testify against you?

But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, I adjure you by the living God to tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.

Jesus said to him, You have said it; but I say to you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the power and coming on the clouds of heaven.

Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, He has blasphemed. Why do we still need witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.

What do you think? They answered, He is guilty of death.

Then they spat in his face and struck him, and some slapped him.

saying, Prophesy to us, Messiah, who is the one who struck you?

But Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him, saying, You also were with Jesus the Galilean.

But he denied it before all, saying, I do not know what you are saying.

And when he had gone out to the gateway, another saw him and said to those there, This one was with Jesus the Nazarene.

And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

And after a little while those standing by came up and said to Peter, Truly you also are one of them, for your speech reveals you.

Then he began to curse and swear that he did not know the man. And immediately a rooster crowed.

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, having said, Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times, and going outside, he wept bitterly.
