I say then, God has not rejected his people, has he? May it never be. For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.

God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel?

Lord, your prophets they have killed, your altars they have torn down, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.

But what does the divine message say to him? I have left for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.

So too in the present age a remnant has been chosen by grace.

But if it is by grace, it is no longer from works, because grace is no longer grace.

What then? What Israel seeks, it did not obtain, but the elect obtained it; the rest were hardened,

As it is written: God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes not to see, and ears not to hear, until this very day.

And David says, Let their table become a trap and a snare and a stumbling block and a retribution to them,

Let their eyes be darkened so that they do not see, and bend their back forever.

I say then, have they stumbled so that they might fall? Absolutely not. But through their stumbling, salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.

But if their trespass is the wealth of the world and their failure is the wealth of the nations, how much more the fullness of them.

But to you I speak, the Gentiles. Insofar as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I glorify my ministry,

If somehow I might provoke my flesh to jealousy and save some of them.

For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what is the reception except life from the dead?

If the firstfruit is holy, so is the lump; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them and became a participant of the root and the richness of the olive tree,

Do not boast over the branches; but if you boast, you do not support the root, but the root supports you.

You will say then, Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.

Well done. They were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear.

For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

See then the kindness and severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but kindness toward you, if you continue in kindness, otherwise you also will be cut off.

And those also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again.

For if you were cut off from the wild olive tree according to nature and grafted contrary to nature into the cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are according to nature, be grafted into their own olive tree.

For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you may not be wise in your own estimation, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the nations has entered.

And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: The one who saves will come out of Zion, he will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.

And this is the covenant from me to them, when I take away their sins.

According to the gospel, they are enemies because of you, but according to the election, they are beloved because of the fathers.

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

For just as you once disobeyed God, but now have received mercy because of their disobedience,

So in the same way, these also have now been disobedient in order that by your mercy they may now be shown mercy.

For God has locked all together into disobedience so that he may have mercy on all.

Oh, the depth of the wealth and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?

Or who has given to him, and it will be repaid to him?

For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.
