Romans 12 — SBL Greek New Testament

Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, which is your rational worship.

2

And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of the mind, so that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

3

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

καθάπερ γὰρ ἐν ἑνὶ σώματι πολλὰ μέλη ἔχομεν, τὰ δὲ μέλη πάντα οὐ τὴν αὐτὴν ἔχει πρᾶξιν,

For just as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have the same function,

οὕτως οἱ πολλοὶ ἓν σῶμά ἐσμεν ἐν Χριστῷ, τὸ δὲ καθ' εἷς ἀλλήλων μέλη.

So we, many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.

ἔχοντες δὲ χαρίσματα κατὰ τὴν χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν διάφορα, εἴτε προφητείαν κατὰ τὴν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως,

Having gifts according to the grace given to us, different ones, whether prophecy according to the proportion of faith,

εἴτε διακονίαν ἐν τῇ διακονίᾳ, εἴτε ὁ διδάσκων ἐν τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ,

whether service, in serving; or the one who teaches, in teaching,

εἴτε ὁ παρακαλῶν ἐν τῇ παρακλήσει, ὁ μεταδιδοὺς ἐν ἁπλότητι, ὁ προϊστάμενος ἐν σπουδῇ, ὁ ἐλεῶν ἐν ἱλαρότητι.

If it is the one encouraging, in encouragement; the one giving, in simplicity; the one leading, with diligence; the one showing mercy, with cheerfulness.

Ἡ ἀγάπη ἀνυπόκριτος. ἀποστυγοῦντες τὸ πονηρόν, κολλώμενοι τῷ ἀγαθῷ·

Let love be without hypocrisy. Detesting what is evil, clinging to what is good.

τῇ φιλαδελφίᾳ εἰς ἀλλήλους φιλόστοργοι, τῇ τιμῇ ἀλλήλους προηγούμενοι,

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; outdo one another in showing honor.

τῇ σπουδῇ μὴ ὀκνηροί, τῷ πνεύματι ζέοντες, τῷ κυρίῳ δουλεύοντες,

Do not be lazy in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord,

12

τῇ ἐλπίδι χαίροντες, τῇ θλίψει ὑπομένοντες, τῇ προσευχῇ προσκαρτεροῦντες,

Rejoicing in hope, enduring in tribulation, persevering in prayer,

13

ταῖς χρείαις τῶν ἁγίων κοινωνοῦντες, τὴν φιλοξενίαν διώκοντες.

Contributing to the needs of the saints, pursuing hospitality.

14

εὐλογεῖτε τοὺς διώκοντας, εὐλογεῖτε καὶ μὴ καταρᾶσθε.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

χαίρειν μετὰ χαιρόντων, κλαίειν μετὰ κλαιόντων.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

16

τὸ αὐτὸ εἰς ἀλλήλους φρονοῦντες, μὴ τὰ ὑψηλὰ φρονοῦντες ἀλλὰ τοῖς ταπεινοῖς συναπαγόμενοι. μὴ γίνεσθε φρόνιμοι παρ' ἑαυτοῖς.

Having the same mind toward one another, not thinking of things above yourselves, but associating with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

μηδενὶ κακὸν ἀντὶ κακοῦ ἀποδιδόντες· προνοούμενοι καλὰ ἐνώπιον πάντων ἀνθρώπων·

Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but be careful to do what is right in the sight of all people.

εἰ δυνατόν, τὸ ἐξ ὑμῶν μετὰ πάντων ἀνθρώπων εἰρηνεύοντες·

If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with all people.

19

μὴ ἑαυτοὺς ἐκδικοῦντες, ἀγαπητοί, ἀλλὰ δότε τόπον τῇ ὀργῇ, γέγραπται γάρ· Ἐμοὶ ἐκδίκησις, ἐγὼ ἀνταποδώσω, λέγει κύριος.

Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to wrath, for it is written: To me belongs vengeance; I will repay, says the Lord.

But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by doing this you will heap burning coals on his head.

21

μὴ νικῶ ὑπὸ τοῦ κακοῦ, ἀλλὰ νίκα ἐν τῷ ἀγαθῷ τὸ κακόν.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
